Nearly six years ago, viewers of Breaking Bad watched the final episode of that series, in which the drug kingpin Walter White (played by Bryan Cranston) emerged from hiding and sacrificed his life to rescue his one-time partner, Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) from an Aryan Brotherhood gang. When White expired in a meth lab and the credits rolled, audiences believed it might be the last time they would see many of these characters.
But it turns out the story of Breaking Bad isnt quite finished.
Netflix announced on Saturday that it will release a new Breaking Bad movie that will center on Pinkman, the excitable meth cook played by Paul, who was last seen in the TV series speeding off in a stolen Chevrolet El Camino to parts unknown.
The film, called El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie, was written and directed by Vince Gilligan, the creator of Breaking Bad, and will be released on Netflix on Oct. 11. The film is also expected to be broadcast at a later date on AMC, the cable network where the TV series was originally shown from 2008 to 2013.
Its a chapter of Breaking Bad that I didnt realize that I wanted, Paul said in an interview. And now that I have it, Im so happy that its there.
Netflix provided only the briefest plot summary of El Camino, which states, In the wake of his dramatic escape from captivity, Jesse must come to terms with his past in order to forge some kind of future.
Paul said in the interview that he was forbidden from revealing anything more about what happens in the film. But, like the shows fans, he said he also believed he had said goodbye to the world of Breaking Bad when the TV series concluded.

Ought a roku box for $10. Gives me access to much free programming. I use it on my older flat screen that doesn’t have the free programs built in.
Did you watch the last episode? Jessie ESCAPES the cage with Walter's help and drives off with millions of $$ while everyone else is dead - including Walter. I can only hope Jessie has learned some positive life lessons after everything he went through. Is it enough to warrant an entire movie? IDK.
Agreed. And as "Sons of Anarchy" is to Hamlet. My husband actually liked it better than Breaking Bad - which I had to drag him kicking and screaming to watch, too. ;o)
Not exactly sure why it wasnt until season two I became hooked on the series. Hmm.
“And yes if those thieves are ever tried they’d have a like minded accomplice on the jury. No different from sneaking into the movie theater. Beautiful demonstration of Christian values, by the way. Sort of an outrage tantrum.”
I used to share your view and even advocate it on this forum a few years ago. I do believe firmly in the idea of people getting paid for their work. I also believe in contract law and ip law as a concept.
However, the left is using these things to wage war on conservatives, Christians, and the free market in general. It is more than simple unfairness. It is war.
Right now, at this very moment, YouTube is generating millions of dollars in ad revenue for Google aka Alphabet that is largely based on the theft of intellectual property. Sure, they will often respond to complaints of ip theft and arbitrate between parties in dispute to an extent, but they profit regardless. And they have exempted themselves from any liability. Also, there is no way for any ip owner to verify that they are getting properly paid. For example, YouTube may be stealing millions generated by conservative viewers of “FoxNews” channels that are fake and owned by IP thieves. So, Fox News pays to create content, millions of conservatives watch its content on YouTube, conservative (and other) advertisers pay for ad placement within these videos, and YouTube and the thieves make money.
Intellectual property is like owning the moon or perhaps the air we breathe. The founders of this nation provided for powers that enabled Congress to create such laws for a specific purpose. That is NOT what is happening in most cases today.
When we have just laws, just implementation of these laws, and just application of these laws, I will happily return to my full support of them.
Until then, consider that intellectual property is not property in the Biblical / “Christian” sense you are bringing up. When Moses wrote God’s laws in which theft was specifically prohibited, intellectual property was not property. Money, land, and other tangible things are property that can be stolen. Imagine Moses forbidding Israelites from copying the written laws of God. It’s unthinkable. In fact, some were required to make copies. And this was in a time when doing so was quite difficult. Nowhere is it contemplated that a person could “own” a story, or the words written down (as opposed to the material on which those words were written).
IP is a legal construct. So one could reasonably argue that Christians should comply with the law because Paul wrote to submit to authority. But other passages do not support this principle in an absolute way. If the law changes and says we must all turn in our guns, would you say obedience would be the “Christian” thing to do?
Owning land, books, cars, money, etc. are clearly in view with the prohibition against theft. The idea that we must not copy words, images, thoughts, ways (”methods”) of doing something, etc. is never contemplated in the Bible. It is an innate human right to learn by observing and then copying or imitating what is observed—just like there is an innate right to self-defense.
Yes, the legal construct of IP can serve a useful purpose when a large number of people agree to compensate others for the use of their inventions, art, etc. But the people also have the right to share in the benefit derived from the abrogation of their innate rights. That’s not happening.
Every dollar that Satanic Hollywood loses from their “stolen” IP copied to remote Internet servers around the globe, is another dollar that does not go into the pocket of another Weinstein to abuse women and children. It’s another dollar that is not contributed to the baby-killers at Planned Parenthood or the political campaigns that support baby murder. It’s another dollar not re-invested in a propaganda machine targeting American youth with enticements to sexual promiscuity, perversion, murder, and a much bigger, dangerous, and real form of theft—Socialism.
Further, if there is any legal industry in the world less worthy of the protection of the law than Hollywood I’d like to know what that industry is. Hollywood has a reputation for having the most dishonest accounting of any industry. Theft is the normal way of doing business. This industry is almost completely unregulated when it comes to executing contracts and paying for services rendered.
I do not fault you for your views on this issue. I just have a different opinion. You should follow your conscience. I’ll follow mine.
It was worth the 2 hours I spent watching it on Netflix. I was entertained.
Watched it tonight. Took a few minutes to get back into the mindset. It was a good show.
He will be on Westworld this season. He is a talented actor. Not a strong lead...but a great #2.
I just saw that in an article a few days ago. I watched the first season of Westworld and while appreciated the solid acting and cinematography, I just couldn’t warm up to the story. There was so little I liked on HBO I dropped it right after season 1 ended. I don’t think that service has a bright future. There’s too much competition in streaming...
Dont disagree on HBO. But Aaron has been busy since he left. The roles have been ok, but not high profile. This movie and Westworld should put him back up there.
I watched El Camino yesterday. It is 2 hours + long and I didn’t watch in one setting.
It is a good movie.
For Breaking Bad fans it is a review and perhaps (dreaded) closure. I can reccomend the movie and those of you that dropped Netflix on Obama rumors are badly screwed
He was credited as an Executive Producer on this show so that definitely put some money in his pocket. Might have to give Westworld another look. I think I got halfway through the first episode before I became distracted with something else and never went back. Now that I think about it, I pay $15 bucks a month for HBO and haven't watched a minute of it since GoT ended.
Gotcha. And, in all fairness, I haven’t seen anything he has done since BB. He was certainly terrific in that show.
We started watching “Goliath” on Prime, and commented a few times on how the “aura” of it was a lot like Breaking Bad. The first season was excellent. The second season was sadistic, disgusting, had no real ending, and we regret watching it. Last night we got half-way through Season 3, and shut it off. We’re done.
Not much sex, but the language is TERRIBLE if F-bombs are offensive to someone.
That is interesting
I found Goliath to be a really interesting program. My wife didn’t like it because of the languge I think.
Although season 2 was not as good, I was looking forward to season 3 till your post. I may just give it a pass
The language is strong, but basically just the F word. That doesn’t bother me much; it’s just a stupid word. The Lord’s name in vain, however: “Up with that I cannot put.”
You should check out Season 3, just for giggles. You might get through all of it. We may try again after a while. Good actors in the cast, though — Beau Bridges, Dennis Quaid, Sherilyn Fenn, Griffin Dunne. We were hoping every season would be like the first. I think Billy Bob won some award(s) for it. He’s a weirdo, but a talented weirdo.
And I watched GOT for about three episodes...and never went back. To each his own.
Its funny, I used to “sell” HBO back in my post college days (a LONG time ago.) I would use your statement and mine as a reason why you should get HBO.
But it was 8.95 back then. Ha Ha.
We gave in and finished watching Season 3. Turned out to be very good — got better each episode. We thought Season 2 never left a lot hanging, and Season 3 tied up loose ends. Glad we saw it.
“Season 2 never left a lot hanging,” = Season 2 left a lot hanging
