Brother just got the shingles (high stress life caught up to him). It's limited to a small area but it smarts a lot.
Once it clears up (weeks? months?), he's thinking of getting the latest vaccine (me too). Has anyone taken it?
Any advice on how he can get through this?
I got the vaccine after my SIL got shingles. She is an active, athletic woman (plays goalie on an ice hockey team). She was in bed for months and it affected her eyes. Ten years later and she’s still on medications to deal with the after effects.
there is no infant immunity any more because young mothers no longer have CP.
That's a good question. With that being said, if you've never had CP then you are still able to contract it I guess......
I never had CP until I was in the Army....had to be quarantined for 10 days. One of the side effects was that all the surface skin on the palms of my hands peeled off. That was weird! Until it grew back, everything I touched was super sensitive and sometimes painful.
Good point. But I was talking about 50 yrs ago.
My mom gardens too & the tingle is the warning. I hope this leaves your body soon Friend.
I assumed that was the case, although my children were exposed 20 plus years ago.
I said that so that people today would not expect infant immunity
the death pool has been moved via vaccines from older health compromised children to infants.
Yeah, me too although my experience doesn’t seem as painful as some peoples’.
I contacted all Walmart’s in my area and put my name on a list took 5 wks. Will get second one within 6 months.95% effective up to I think 5 yrs.
Now that’s funny. Been there done that.lol
Im not inclined to get the shingles vaccine yet...but maybe down the road. Hope you do well with it.
Would recommend you get the shots. I felt hung over for a couple days. A bit dizzy at times. Otherwise? Good to go. If you ever saw anyone with a full blown case of shingles you will wish you had gotten the vaccine!
Got vaccine four years ago - haven’t had shingles - sample of one says it works okay......
BIL had a pretty severe case, several years ago. About the same age as your brother is, now.
He started, immediately, on the anti-virals Rx as well as several natural supplements.
Silver topical ointment saved his hide, and staved the pain, for him.
I hear that rolling snake oil in papers or putting it in a bong and smoking it is a lot more effective.
I recommend Olive Leaf Extract, especially:
d-Lenolate, by East Park Research.
“I recommend Olive Leaf Extract, especially:”
Orally, intravenously or anally?
I recommend that your brother consult a neurologist or immunologist who is expert in dealing with shingles. The doctor may prescribe an antiviral drug to suppress the flareup and capsaicin ointment for the pain. A doctor may also advise against getting the vaccine due to the elevated risk of an adverse reaction if one has already had an outbreak.
For shingles pain, try frequent hot baths, especially if the pain is internal. Benadryl and an OTC pain killer (I prefer aspirin) should also help. A TENS device might also be tried.
In my experience, vitamin and mineral deficiencies can play a role in a shingles outbreak, especially deficiencies of Vitamins A and D and magnesium. This may also suggest previously unrecognized dietary and gastrointestinal problems, with supplementation and dietary changes then advisable in order to promote recovery.
The best way to start checking for GI problems is to keep a detailed written food and beverage and symptom and bowel function diary for several weeks. That should help to reveal possible GI issues and provide a basis for referral to a GI specialist. In time, your brother may be shown to have celiac disease or another form of food sensitivity or intolerance that helped to create the conditions for the shingles outbreak. I wish him the best.
I felt like i had the flu...not as bad. Lasted just a few days.
