Brother just got the shingles (high stress life caught up to him). It's limited to a small area but it smarts a lot.
Once it clears up (weeks? months?), he's thinking of getting the latest vaccine (me too). Has anyone taken it?
Any advice on how he can get through this?
Just took both shots md highly recommended it for 55 yrs old
That being said both shots made me ill!
Out of curiosity, how old is your brother?
I have an older sibling but they don’t remember if I had chicken pox. Other than this person doubtful I could find out.
he’s 53
he had CP when he was a child.
A few guys at work have had Shingles and really wish they had got the shots. It is hard to find right now. There is a shortage. As for me, I had one shot and didn’t notice any side effects. I couldn’t get the second due to the shortage.
Perhaps ask for a titer blood test. It will show if you have immunity to chicken pox (meaning you had it)
heard from a friend you can get vaccinated after shingles but only when it’s cleared up.
heard it’s possible to get a second time.
my father was tough guy Coal Mines, sports, France and Germany world war II and more. IO never saw him so debilitated as when he had shingles. My doctor asked me about 10 years ago at age 60 if I wanted a shot. I said, yes please.
Had the original vaccine several years ago. Just got the second of the two shot regimen a few weeks ago. None of the the three shots caused any problems other than a sore arm for a couple of days. Having spoken to people who actually had shingles, I knew it was a risk worth taking.
yeah, you get an immunity after getting CP but it’s not totally gone as CP goes dormant somewhere in your spine.
if your immune system gets compromised, old or stressed the virus can reactivate and flare up again. You do recover as the immune system responds but according to my bro its painful (left torso, but in a small area...Dr. confirmed).
10 years ago the current vaccine was not available. The old stuff was supposed to be ~30-40% effective (just from my memory). Shingrix, the current vaccine, is supposed to be 90% effective.
My wife and I were vaccinated last year with both shots. None of the shots gave us any adverse reaction.
I just got the second of the pair of shots. No problems except a little soreness for a few days.
I’m glad I did.
CBD oil orally and CBD cream topically.
Yeah, I think I’ll get the shots (Shingrix sp?).
Bro will too when it clears up and gets a Dr.’s okay...he’s doesn’t want a relapse.
thanx
I just received the second shot. We’ll see how well it works
One of my older brothers had Shingles a few years ago. It wasn’t debilitating but he said it was somewhat painful., so he now has also had the shots.
My father had two purple hearts from two world wars.
He said Shingles hurt more than shrapnel.
My doctor asked me about 10 years ago at age 60 if I wanted a shot. I said, yes please.
Nobody who has had shingles seems to recommend avoiding the shots.
