Surveillance footage captured by the homeowner's doorbell camera, first spots an individual wearing a hoodie making his way into the driveway via an unlocked front gate. Shortly thereafter, a second individual follows suit and proceeds to open a larger set of gates directly behind the parked Tesla. Meanwhile, the first individual, who has a backpack strapped to his chest, raises his arms and walks closer to the house as if looking for something or "scanning" through the walls. According to the outlet, the thief is actually carrying the relay device inside his backpack and is holding sensors in his hands, which is why he slowly combs the exterior walls until they sense the wireless key's signal and relay it to the car.

Must be old unemployed German rocket scientists?
Has this technique made it to the USA? Only works with Tesla?
Whenever it happened I was home!!!
Always blaming the Italian in the room :)
Doesn’t seem like there would be a big market for stolen Tesla parts and it would be dicey selling them.
Not yet but it will now.........With these new electronic keyfobs, I don't see why it wouldn't work on today's keyless vehicles....
That's a high end car and those two guys are pros (the first guy looks white) The car is likely destined for resale unlike typical thefts here in S.E. Michigan where cars are stolen regularly and found stripped in back alleys or abandoned lots......
There's no market for Tesla body parts or wheels since the people who own them will have them serviced by the Tesla dealers rather than Joe's garage or body shop down the street......
This job reminds me of the movie "Gone in 60 Seconds"...LOL!
why would anyone want to steal a Tesla? ... oh yeah, parts ...
I’ve read that keyfob owners in the USA should wrap their fobs with tin foil, go figure.
Dibs on the idea for a designer Faraday cage key fob holder.
Seems only those types that have a push-button “Start” would be susceptible?

Tesla sounds Italian?.
kind of?
And they are FAST!
Apr 15, 2015 - Last week, I started keeping my car keys in the freezer, and I may be at ... It happened to Simon, who lives across the street from me and has a Toyota Prius. ... thieves are able to drive away with the cars without needing a key.

From what I read, the fob has to be in reasonable proximity for the relay to reach out to both the fob and the car. It wouldn’t work if your car were parked in a Walmart parking lot and you were inside shopping.....
Depends on the sensitivity of the antenna involved.
Put in a container and ship to a $#ithole nation.
Just another day of California traffic?
The jerk in the Jeep ran the light, probably an illegal, just jacked it.
Tesla must have some crappy tech in their car, though, because most car remote fobs are of the "rolling code" variety. The codes change in a predictable mathematical way each time you press the button.
I understand Tesla refuses to sell parts to owners or independent garages. You can only get parts if you have Tesla do the work. So, there really is a market for Tesla parts, stolen or otherwise.

In the above posts are links to test of other manufacturers with the same problem.
I don’t think it records/plays, but simply boost the signal so the car receiver believes the transmitter is nearby?
