Hail Satan?: The Satanists battling for religious freedom (Satan's PR campaign)
bbc.com ^ | 8/22/19 | Kev Geoghegan

Everything you know about Satanism is wrong.

At least that's what a new documentary about the Satanic Temple could be about to prove.

Despite the similarity of the name, the Temple is different to The Church of Satan, established in 1966 by chat show circuit celebrity Anton Levey in San Francisco, California.

Human sacrifice? Wrong. Blood drinking? Wrong. Black Mass? Well, sort of right.

The Temple was founded in 2013 with a mission statement "to encourage benevolence and empathy among all people, reject tyrannical authority, advocate practical common sense and justice, and be directed by the human conscience to undertake noble pursuits guided by the individual will".

Hail Satan? directed by US film-maker Penny Lane, follows the Temple's attempts to curtail what they see as the encroachment of Christianity on US life through its growing political influence.

That creeping theocracy results in a monument to the Ten Commandments being offered pride of place at the Oklahoma State Capitol building in Oklahoma City.

The Temple's response is to ask for a space for their own statue of the Satanic deity Baphomet in a bid to restore some kind of cosmic religious balance, all the while preaching a doctrine in support of social justice and human rights.

"We want people to evaluate the United States being a Christian nation," the Temple's spokesman Lucien Greaves says in the film's trailer. "It's not".

The last time Satanic Ritual Abuse and other forms of perversion edged into the public awareness, the counter propaganda convinced me (sadlY) that it was all wildly taken out of context and Satanists don't really worship Satan etc. I feel like the BBC's recycling that tactic. "Oh you don't like Satanism? It's only because you're ignorant. It's not what you think - whatever you don't like, it's not that AT ALL."

New coinage when Democrats take the White House, Senate and House again, “In Satan We Trust”. The hatred they display makes one think of devil possession.

This goes to the heart of ignorance surrounding our civil rights in the First Amendment.

The establishment clause that begins our First Amendment to the Constitution is discussing Established religions in the United States.

That is NOT a church of Satan or any number of fake religious groups founded on purely reactionary grounds. This group makes no disagreement with the reality that they are simply anti Christian. That is not a religion.

The building out of the establishment clause to local communities means we should all ask if the religious group has an established historical connection to the community. If no, then you have no claim in the Establishment clause. The founders were really trying to protect religious churches as they were in the founding. Courts need to deny standing to these nonsense groups.

Satan church is fake. whatever weird name or derivatives they come up with and we don’t let groups fabricate identities on a host of other legal categories.

Religion is the method of worshiping God.

Lucifer, now a fallen angel, now called Satan, is a fallen angel, a created being.

Worship of a fallen angel is not worship of God, therefore is not necessarily protected by the 1st Amendment expressing Freedom of Religion.

Historically, the 1st Amendment addressed the issues of many different Christian denominations, which frequently differed only in how some Scriptures were interpreted, or from which direction a new believer might begin to continue their sanctification process.

Cults, nor the Occult are protected by the 1st Amendment, though those who reject God, will likely clamor to it for protection, seeking to hide as wolves in sheep’s clothing.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Of course these people have a political agenda. The real Satanists, full on sacrifice with black mass and human sacrifice/desecration type Satanists would probably keep a lower profile and laugh at these people in that they ultimately were futhering their agenda while completely ignorant. If they exist...

So if you move to a community and find you are the only Jew, you’re out of luck? Maybe you need to work on your theory a bit.

Eventually something connected with Satan Worship will be going to the Supreme Court. It may be someone getting fired after missing work due to attending a Black Mass UnHoly Day.
Something bizarre and loathsome like that.

haha! True!

And suddenly Burning Man ceremonies are being downplayed - I saw an article saying Satan was out and now burning man is being taken over by families, diapers etc. Just good family fun, you see. :/

“satanists” are white supremacists. Anton LaVey cited the same “white supremacist” text cited by a recent rampage killer. And several of the recent rampage killers were self-identified Satanists. Certainly not the first US rampage killers who sought out Christians to kill.

They are decidedly anti-Christian. They are bigots and don’t seem to have a beef with Islamic theocracy in America or elsewhere in the world.

That is in fact a problem if we take a local view of the First Amendment through the incorporation clause.

The First Amendment says “Congress”

That means that entire states were disposed toward one state religion or another such as Anglican or Catholic. So yes, you would only have your individual rights and not a collective right like those who were in the established religion.

It is what the amendment said and it certainly does not protect made up religions.

I do think obviously Judaism has an established history but frankly combined with the assembly right at the end of the First Amendment the founders probably thought people should be able to join into groups.

Apparently the satanists' grasp of U.S. history isn't very good.

Whenever someone brings up SRA, which is real, we are reminded of the “Satanic Panic” of the 1980’s, which was...?

Every Believer should read up on the McMartin preschool case. Not the version which says that “it was all made up”, but what the parents actually discovered after the authorities dropped any pretense of a full investigation.

As to the Satanic Temple? They’re just the “bronze plan” for Satanism. The enemies of Jesus Christ have no problem with lying and deception. One should keep that in mind as one reads any of the crap they put out for public consumption...

It’s an onion. Layers under layers. The core of believers that are completely dedicated to the Adversary is deeply hidden but very real. LeVay’s Satanists are just the topmost layer.

It’s a seemingly-innocuous public face that not only helps mind-numb the gullible public, it also serves as a forum where the real, serious, dedicated, and dangerous opponents of God can observe and recruit potentially useful persons for deeper things.

The most dangerous do not wear black robes or draw pentagrams on the floor. They wear suits and ties and have impeccable public personas.
