The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is now aware of 153 possible cases of severe lung disease in 16 states that could be caused by vaping, the agency said Wednesday in an update to a multi-state investigation.

The cases -- reported from June 28 to August 20, 2019 -- have popped up in California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Michigan, North Carolina, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah and Wisconsin. They have primarily affected adolescents and young adults.

This is an increase from Saturday, when CDC announced it was looking into 94 possible cases in 14 states. At the time, a CNN survey of state health departments concluded there were more than 120 cases in at least 15 states.

Same principle. Anytime you have moisture and bacteria or mold you’re gonna have problems.

I’m surprised these things haven’t happened earlier in in more numerous cases.

Sucking in mold spores and bacteria into your lungs cannot be a good thing........................

I’ve been working at Coors for the last 19 years in malting.
We have 47 huge germination compartments for the barley to sit in at fifty degrees and 100% humidity for four days.
We have PCV piping filled with sodium hypochlorite throughout the entire building connected to hoses and spray tips that we use to spray all over the floors, compartments, walls and ceilings.

It’s a constant battle to keep mold down in our areas.

Nice.
I was five in ‘74.
The librats in Boulder are trying to turn Golden into another Boulder. Been at it for years.
Started with the roundabouts, and went downhill from there.

“I’m surprised these things haven’t happened earlier in in more numerous cases.”

We don’t yet have evidence that spores or bacteria were involved in this, do we? It is certainly a possibility, but in the case of marijuana/CBD vaping many users clean the apparatus with 90% isopropyl and then there is always the heat, but maybe not often enough or intense enough. The kids generally use disposable vapes though, don’t they?

I was in the Marine Corps at the time, 19 years old, and one of my classmates was actually FROM GOLDEN. He was from a very wealthy family. What he was doing in the Marine Corps I have no clue. He drove a foreign sports car that nobody ever heard of, and would tell you that he had to pick it up in CANADA and drive it all the way from Nova Scotia. And don’t you dare touch it!

He was LIBERAL AS HELL.

When he found out I was from Florida, he automatically assumed I was some southern KKK bigot and essentially told me so, before I could even defend myself. He never missed a chance to look down his nose at me or others he thought were from the South.

So, I decided I would jerk his chain every chance I could by actually playing the part.

I discovered I could make him roll his eyes on cue, just by making remarks that vaguely sounded racist but really weren’t, just to tweak his ire.

That was the first liberal I ever had any personal contact with that acted according to stereotype, and I have never been disappointed in their behaviors since.

As a contrast, when I got to my permanent base, I was stationed with another Marine that was also from wealthy family, and he also drove a car that nobody ever heard of, as well. But he in no way was like the first guy from Golden. He was a great guy and never would insult you or lord his wealth about either. Except for his sports car, which he let anybody drive, he was just like the rest of us......................

The government wants you on patches and chewing nicotine gum.

Except for the nicotine and the flavoring, vape fluids use the same glycerin, etc, that's used in breathing treatments. I just tell people to check the country of origin, and only buy US products. China can't make safe dog food.

I don’t disbelieve you it’s just I’ve never seen it and it has same symptoms as a preexisting condition called CVS

And unlike most pot haters here I have a lot of experience with it, I’d smoke it today we’re i inclined and if my new wave era wifey liked to smoke with her Cream Led Zeppelin era husband

I found it quite pleasurable far superior to hamfisted alcohol

But it’s sure not for everyone especially panic attack prone women

I’ve see folks having take me to the emergency room I’m gonna did panic attacks from too much high grade pot in any form of delivery

I have talked folks through it pretty easily actually because I am experience in Hendrix way...

Very much so

And my admonition to them is to limit marijuana to low doses and for Gods sake never take LSD or Psilocybin because if you think this is bad think times 100 that goes on a long long time and can change your life

I realize psychedelics are much weaker than my era but I routinely flare folks off especially my own children whereas if they smoke weed I don’t care unless they become couch boulders

I grew up in a place and time where marijuana was easily available, plentiful, accepted by the public and ignored by the authorities even before it became legal here years ago. This permissive attitude extended even to the people that I worked with on the fire department. My best friend was a serious pot smoker in his youth. My high school sweet heart became a pothead and the women I came very close to marrying just before I met my wife was a pothead. I cannot tell you how many of my friends smoked pot and still smoke pot to this day and their consumption has only increased since it was legalized years ago. My neighbor behind us who is coming over this morning to borrow some plumbing tools this morning is one of those who stinks up the neighborhood and out house at night smoking, vaping, and using other paraphernalia on their deck.

I spent 25 years responding to medical calls where many of the people were having difficulties directly related to the abuse of various substances. My wife is a retired nurse and cared for many with issues related to alcohol and drug abuse. We both became very good at identifying long term users of alcohol, marijuana, and various other drugs legal and illegal. We have both been observing people with these issues from a trained medical perspective so we notice details that most others do not. My wife is very perceptive to begin with, I am not as good at it. But both of us have learned to keep our thoughts to ourselves to avoid offending people.

Long term pot smokers do tend to be some of the worst hypochondriacs in the world. My wife was listening to the mother of a young woman she knows complain about her plethora of physical and mental maladies and who was looking for advice. It dawned on my wife that absolutely everything she was describing matched the symptoms of a long term pot smoker. So my wife inadvertently asked about this. It was a perfect bulls-eye, but this woman is very active in her church, is a conservative who home schools her five kids including my wife's young acquaintance and my wife being able to identify the issue so easily embarrassed her pretty badly. So my wife hasn't had to listen to anymore of her complaints.

Not all medical professionals have had as much or the same types of experiences with pot smokers as my wife and I. Not all of them have spent decades observing family, friends, and acquaintances who have been long term pot users. But the ones who have can identify them very easily from their physical and psychological complaints. This is an area where experience is a much better teacher than what they teach about it in school or in text books.

One of the most revealing things about marijuana is that long term abusers are typically almost evangelical in their zeal to convince others how wonderful it is. To most of them pot can do no wrong and those who are able to point out issues that it causes are evil. It is comical and along the lines of methheads who have destroyed their health and are missing half their teeth claiming that they are using it as a medicine to make themselves healthier. And I saw this personally on several occasions.

I have a couple good friends who’ve been ingesting high concentrations of THC in one form or another on an almost daily basis for decades, and neither of them exhibit hypochondria in the least. Quite the opposite, in fact.

In my observational experience, that and similar symptoms of paranoia are user-dependent — many exhibit the paranoia / hypochondria you noted, but many don’t. The later group obviously doesn’t call paramedics due to anxiety symptoms.

So it all depends on the mental and physical constitution of the cannabis user.

I was about to write the same thing.....I’m not advocate for marijuana particularly but I do believe in truth

I guarantee you a paramedic will have attended to far more instances of grisly aftermath from drinking than pot smoking

And I’m not advocating not drinking, I love the taste of a cold high end lager or Pilsner....the more hops nose the better....

I haven’t been stoned in 28 years but I once smoked a whole lot ...ultra chronic usage

Somehow I was able to get a BA almost go to UVA law but decided to opt for world adventure instead

Marry not once but twice and raise and still raising five children from 12-31

And make enough of a living to raise them in reasonable upper middle class

And I’d smoke now if wifey wanted to and I might again one day

At least half my extended peer group does and most have done well and have smoked since the 70s

Like I said upthread don’t let it run your life....weed is more subtle than overdrinking so it’s easy to let it become an all day everyday habit

I have seen hyper active OCD folks who could function on serious smoke all day unencumbered but I wouldn’t want them flying my A380

Which reminds me of being in Key West a few years ago visiting a friend from the old days and there were two fighter jocks at the bar having some beers

It’s a small bar downtown sorta hidden only locals go to

We get to talking them focusing on Annette naturally and they were limiting themselves to just a few beers

They had to fly their birds back to a carrier offshore from Boca Chica NAS in a few hours

I was like man that is risky living ...you could lose your wings over that

They were laughing....it’s a night landing nobody will notice if we’re wobbling on deck...they were joking of course

At least they weren’t stoned or maybe they were Key West and all
