If youre looking to see some friendly faces, you apparently shouldnt head to The Empire State.
In a survey conducted by travel website Big 7 Travel, 1.5 million people weighed in on the friendliest states in America and New York ranked dead last.
Though Big 7 Travel tried to soften the blow with an explainer locals might seem a bit gruff at first (even upstate!), but its a melting pot of many cultures and the neighborhoods in each borough of NYC have a community feel if you manage to stick it out for long enough it was clear that the majority of Americans do not consider the Big Apple as a nice place to visit.
It seemed to be a trend with the Northeast, as four of the bottom five states were all found in the region: Delaware, Massachusetts and New Jersey ranked 48, 47 and 46, respectively.

Liberals are the most unfriendly people you will ever meet.
New Yorkers are so nice; just gotta love ‘em.

Actually I find NJ to be worse than NY.
The main reason why I left in 2000. Will never go back. New Yorkers love to make fun of people in the South but they can take a lesson on how to act and treat people from Southern folks. Most New Yorkers’ (conservatives too) only stereotypical impression of the South is what they have seen and learned from Hollywood and TV.
They have to live with the consequences from the politicians they elect due to the poor education the get from the publications they read. That would put anyone in a bad mood.
Politicians: Hillary, Cuomo, de Blasio
Publications: New York Times, etc.
Congenial but clannish.
There is less artificiality about the natives than their counterparts in, say, San Fransicko or Seattle.
Most unfriendliest place I have visited is Miami.
In an hispanic area. If you are a gringo.
The writer should STFU.
:)
ANOTHER example of NY unfriendliness!
All seriousness aside, I’ve found New Yorkers friendly and helpful if:
They see you are lost and are not threatening.
It is daylight.
I have been impressed by NYers during my recent city visits.
I’m from New York. Massachusetts makes New York seem like Mr. Rogers.
Grew up in Brooklyn, it was a very friendly place in the 40’s and 50’s. We all got along. The secret, middle class workers with a work ethic and family pride. Everyone was in the same boat, and they all worked together to keep their neighborhood up. Then along came 1968, and things started to go down hill. Today the open doors are now gated entries, bars on the windows and 3-5 locks on the doors.??? Whaaa happened??? Is there still “a” cop on the beat handling about 10 blocks?
They must be referring to the City. Upstate New York is a different animal. Nice, salt-of-the-earth folks there.
NY politicians suck. NY elects them.
That's more than you can say for all major cities on the Left Coast.
Agreed. Had a week-end place in upstate when I worked in Manhattan. People there could not be more pleasant.
Scene on a street in New York City:
Tourist: Excuse me sir, do you have the time?
Citizen: Do I look like Big f*ck*en Ben to you? What, are you too cheap to buy a watch, you f*ck*en a*s*hole? F*k you!
It’s like the old joke: “New York is the only city in the world where you can walk down the street and call everyone you meet a jerk, and be right 99% of the time”.
FauxNews decided we only needed to know about the top and bottom few.
They could have provided the list for people in the rest of the states.
I will do so for them.
