I have to laugh at the mention of Reagan in this quote. All you have to do is go back to a time like 1982 in the newspaper archives online and see all sorts of articles featuring all sorts of comments and remarks from GOPe types like David Gergen and other so called moderates and how they feared the far rightward direction that Reagan was supposedly taking the Republican party in at that time and how that was going to cost them dearly in the midterms of that year and even the WH in 1984.
