Model is a 4 month old Dell with windows 10 and I have tried 4 different browsers.... Firefox,, chrome, edge, and Mom uses AOL, none will load FR but other sites load ok
Operating system is windows 10. Service provider is Comporium, our only choice up here in the Blue Ridge Mtns in our little town. But I have same ISP and I am using FR. Her PC is using cable Ethernet, but she does also have wifi off of it and her wifi will let me open FR on my phone.
I get the browser's page won't load error message on all 4 browsers. Widows 10 operating system
2 of the browsers were newly downloaded ones. My brother already put Malwarebytes on there for her the day after FR stopped loading.
I tried that and it still didn't load, and told that to the provider's tech. We tried changing the proxy server and several other things related to that.
I tried the ipconfig flush thing at the command prompt.... found that advice on google. It flushed, but didn’t help.
Yes, I tried clearing cookies. No go.
You might try unplugging the cable and switching over to the wifi connection.
It’s odd that it is only FR being blocked. We had that happen to us once. FR was being hit with DOS attacks and John was blocking certain addresses. We found that we could get on FR by going through a VPN. You might try downloading and installing Opera (it’s free). Opera has a built-in VPN.
I saw the vpn service suggestion on google but not sure how to access it.. is there a free one I can try?
As for the dynamic DNS assigned...... I’ll check on that tomorrow morning. Mom lives at a senior complex in town, so I’ll go by there tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestion.
Yes, we have been trying to find out what’s causing it for two weeks now.
It may be possible that AOL has put FR on their list sites that they have determined are compatible with their political views. I would recommend changing to another provider.
....are NOT compatible with their political views.
Thanks Molly, I’ll tell her you said hello.
I agree with your recommendations, except for an unforeseen occurrence that happened to me. I had been a longterm user of Malwarebytes free version, and was actually considering the premium (paid) version. Anyway, I noticed that my free version was absent, so I tried to reload it. I went to their site, and requested an update, which is all I wanted, however, somehow the process got carried away, and I wound up with a (free) trial version of the premium. That’s when the problem started- My computer slowed down to a crawl. Things were running at maybe one quarter speed or less. That immediately convinced me that I didn’t really want the premium version, and the whole process started to become somewhat familiar, seems like I have been there before and done that. All of which brings up a question on my part- is anyone else familiar with this?
Yes, we have tried typing in the full address as well as FR’s IP address
Too little information to even begin to offer assistance. Need to know what operating system she is running on, which browser she is using. What happens when she tries to go to freerepublic.com. Does she get an error of does it just do nothing?
My apologies, Revel. I posted quickly this afternoon on my way home from a long day of music rehearsals. After cooking dinner and all that, I am just now getting time to myself to read and answer all the replies. I am so grateful for all of you who have suggestions and I am trying to answer them all. I have Bible study tomorrow morning, but will be back by noon to check on more suggestions.
Make sure the site isn’t blacklisted on her pc. Try also getting a command prompt up and pinging to the up to see if you get a response back. Check to see if other sites like eBay foxnews come up as well. I can only assume that it’s either blocked by her ISP or it just cannot find a route out.
Have tried 4 different browsers and flushed the DNS at the command prompt .... neither fixed it.
