My Mom, who is. FR member needs help. Free Republic site all-of-a-sudden will not load on her PC. She is 91 and enjoys coming here everyday to keep up with news.
I have tried everything I know to do.... googled it and there was a lot of help for solutions, and I have now tried them all with no luck and cannot find the problem. I called the service provider and they have tried everything they know to do. Still no solution. They say this is not an unusual problem, it happens but now they are saying to take the PC to a tech shop.
I thought perhaps before we take it in and pay a huge bill, I might ask if any of you have had this problem with a site and how did you fix it? Thanks so much for your help.
Do other pages load?
Try going to freerepublic.com then pressing the Ctrl and F5 keys on the keyboard at the same time. That will force it to reload the page from the server, just in case you have something corrupted in the browser cache that is preventing it from loading.
What is model of computer she is using? What browser?
What web browser is she using ?
Operating System,Service Provider, Wireless..etc ???
This is a very long shot, and you will no doubt get some ideas from people who know what they are talking about, but POSSIBLY something with Tools - Compatability View? Or Tools - Security?
OS and browser?
Can you supply some details — What do you mean by “doesn’t load”? Do you get an error message? What browser and OS are being used?
If it’s windows download CCleaner and run it
The simplest thing to do would be to download a browser that you don't currently have installed (Firefox would really fit the bill here) and try to connect.
If you can't connect through a fresh browser, then go straight to Malwarebytes, download free version, run free version.
Where you normally type in www.freerepublic.com type in http://209.157.64.200
If this work, it’s a DNS issue
You should always have a second/backup browser installed just to check things like this
ipconfig /flushdns
at the command prompt.
If you can see other websites, my best guess is clear your browser cookies (you will have to log back on to everything) and then enter the full, secure address.
https://www.frerepublic.com
Try accessing through VPN service and if it works it is definitely a DNS issue. If your mom is assigned a dynamic DNS by her ISP, maybe the one your mom received is banned on FR.
Has she tried turning it off and on again?
Give her my love. Sorry I can’t help.
If you are using a desktop icon to open the page the shortcut/icon may be broken, just a thought.
Type the address in the address bar.
What a complete waist of time. You did not give one detail that could be used to understand the problem. And you don’t answer any questions.
