FULL TITLE: 'You don't talk to the United States that way under me!' Donald Trump accuses Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen of being 'nasty' for calling his plan to buy Greenland 'absurd' after he canceled state visit in fury at territory not being for sale

Donald Trump on Wednesday accused Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen of being 'nasty' when she said his plan to buy Greenland was 'absurd.'

The president told reporters on the South lawn her statement on the matter 'was nasty' during a 35-minute, free wheeling exchange that included his thoughts on gun background checks, Israel, the New York Times, China and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

'I thought that the prime minister's statement that it was absurd - that it was an absurd idea - was nasty. I thought it was an inappropriate statement. All she had to do is say no, we wouldn't be interested,' he said.

'She shouldn't treat the United States that way. She said absurd. That's not the right word to use. Absurd,' he noted.

'I thought it was an inappropriate statement. All she had to do is say no, we wouldn't be interested,' he said of Frederiksen's reaction to his proposal to buy the world's largest island, which is a Danish territory.

'I thought it was a very not nice way of saying something. They could have told me no,' he said, adding: 'All they had to do is say, no, we would rather not do that or we would rather not talk about it. Don't say what an absurd idea that is.'

He accused her of insulting the United States with her response.

'She's not talking to me,' he said of Frederiksen. 'She's talking to the United States of America. You don't talk to the United States that way. At least underme

President Trump realizes her grasp of the geopolitical situation is beyond her understanding. Is China’s control over Greenland less absurd? I think not from a geopolitica position. China has designs for Greenland’s rich deposits for zinc and iron. It also wants control for a strategic military position. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen is ignoring the reality of China’s intentions for Greenland. Perhaps Trump can get her to look at the big picture by making her feel the embarrassment of her thinking.

WINNING!

You left out rare earth deposits.
China is trying to get control to the best they can ALL rare earth deposits and their processing. Even trying to get a handle (meaning dominate if successful!) on current experimental efforts of processing rare earths out of other mineral waste like coal.

The Danes are keeping Greenland for when they finally get tired of all the “New Danes” they mistakenly let in.

America has the scientific technology to process those rare earth minerals better than anyone on earth. Some of that technology we wish to keep secret. I am sure China has acquired those secrets and Denmark will sit back and let them benefit from it. This is not good from a security position when China is moving towards becoming the leading world power militarily.

As I understand it, Danish law allows Greenland to declare itself independent if a majority of its residents vote in favor of it. There are about 60K Greenlanders, and the sentiment is overwhelmingly in favor of separation, except that they realize that they cannot support their current standard of living if they did. All Trump needs to do is to convince the 60K living in Greenland, and not the Danish prime minister. If the U.S. offered a hefty one-time payment to all Greenlanders, along with a U.S. passport and citizenship, I expect it wouldn’t be too hard a sell.

The naming was purposefully done that way to keep away invaders.

Apparently not. Denmark wasn't occupied during World War I and was occupied by Germany the day World War II ended.

It was occupied by Germany since 1940, which was a long time before the war ended. I knew something was wrong with your statement when I read it because I recall the big flap about the Danish king saying something like "We'll all have to wear yellow stars." (disputed, by the way.)

Once again the lsm lies. He did not accuse her of being nasty, he said her statement was nasty.

What I should have said was still occupied by Germany the day World War II ended. My bad. But the fact remains that the U.S. didn't liberate them either time.

You don't think the US and Russia whipping Germany had an effect on the occupation? I dare say, if Germany hadn't been beaten, Denmark would now be a German state.

Turns out 90 percent of the Greenlanders wouldn’t mind it at all. Currently, you can’t own your own land there.

See my reply 36.

Yes. It's not the first time I have fallen victim to reading the thread from the beginning and responding to items as I come across them.

It's my habit to do so, and even if it causes the occasional mistake, I have no interest in changing my ways.

I acknowledge that you have corrected your statement.

He wouldn't have gotten too far! The SR-71 stopped flying in 1998....at least as far as we know.

But the point is true.....he'd bowed down to them so fast it would have been embarrassing.

The SR 71 did a max take off demonstration at an airshow at Kirtland AFB, ABQ, NM, in 1984. I was a performer near the crowd line at show center, standing there with my mouth agape, as the afterburner exhaust diamonds burst out of the engines in precise spacings.

I wonder what’s going on with this? Trump has to have a reason for making this news. What do you suppose it is?
