A student's parents are suing Texas school administrators for coloring in a hair design on the black student's head.
The student, 13, went to Berry Miller Junior High in April with the letter "M" shaved on his head. Three administrators told the student his haircut violated the school's dress code policy. They told him he could call his mother, receive a disciplinary action or color the design in with a marker.
A federal civil rights lawsuit filed Sunday said administrators laughed as they used a permanent marker to color the boy's scalp. The lawsuit noted that the boy was "immensely humiliated and shamed," adding that it took several days of scrubbing to take off the permanent marker.

Just send him home.
I was thinking maybe the M stands for “Miller”, the name of the school? Or maybe just plain “MoFo”; who knows?
I had a colleague who would use markers to draw on the faces of students who fell asleep in her class. I would never do this. It didn’t seem right to me. Some kids laughed it off and some got pissed off. No law suits however.
I used a different technique depending on the time of the day. If it was right before lunch, I’d move up the clock to after lunch, turn out the lights move the kid’s into the hallway and when the bell rang, make him think he’d slept through it. The kids eagerly played along. Otherwise dropping a large book on the floor would rouse him.
And the negro fatigue continues to build because of these sorts.
> Suing? Good grief. <
Oh, yes. If a school administrator touches my kid, you can bet theres gonna be a lawsuit. The only exception is this. If my kid is doing something violent, and has to be restrained, then okay. Then do what you gotta do.
Troll
Coloring the hair with a permanent marker is not the answer. Hope the kid get rich. Teachers are dumb!!!!!
There should have no options left to the student alone.
The parent(s) should have been contacted, and which other options would be chosen by the student should have been decided by the parents. If the parents were not home & unable to be contacted, the only thing that should have happened is the child should have told they had to return the next day with their parent(s) or not return until they could return with their parent(s). Then the school could make their demand on the parents and the parents could decide. Yes, I think there are zillions of things far worse than missing a day of public school.
Not doing any of that and merely demanding the student color in their scalp was wrong in my view.
There are many things students can do, and do do to draw attention to themselves. Schools often seem arbitrary in the ways they decide one form of that is too much compared to other forms.
M for Miller, the skool name?
What’s wrong with that? I remember when skool spirit was encouraged.
Thank goodness he didn’t point a French fry at another kid and say “bang!” He would be in jail now.
And he who you may not criticize rules you.
Meth head.
He’s 13. In any event, you don’t give students at any age stupid, bad, wrong choices.
“Well, we can cut off your toes or cut off your wang. You choose.”
> Just send him home. <
Exactly! If the school administrators would rather touch the kid, and draw on his head, then they deserve to lose a big lawsuit.
Or a trip to the local mosque as has been done.
Lets see
Kid breaks rule
Kid gets caught
Kid chooses punishment
Kid does not like results of breaking the rules.
Kids complain to parents
Parents choose to teach kid that he should not be responsible when he breaks the rules
I’ve never taken falling asleep personally, and I ignore it if it’s not disruptive.
Yes, and if this were my son I would sue too. Markers are not meant to be ingested and evidently a large amount was placed on his skin which would absorb this. The boy could have had a bad reaction to whatever was in the marker. Very irresponsible of the school administrators. They ought to lose their jobs over this, and never be allowed near a school again.
That being said, I would have had some strong words with my son about being grown up and presenting an appearance to show that he was a successful intelligent young man and going places someday. Also, I would have done something about the haircut so that he could meet the school’s dress code. He probably considers being suspended from school a reward not a punishment.
Must be a fad going round. My grandson got a cut the other day
for the first of school this year. He had a Letter cut in for
the name of the school. Today was the first day and he didn’t
get sent back home.
