Police Chief Deanna Cantrell had left her personal handgun in a restaurant bathroom July 10. She was disciplined but kept her job.
Cantrell left her Glock .380 in an El Pollo Loco but quickly announced it was missing via a YouTube video. Mangans brother-in-law saw social media postings and told authorities he believed Mangan had the weapon.
Mangan could have been charged with a misdemeanor...

Ditto, I'm reading the different responses, and wondering why would the person still have their job, I see the picture of the ("All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others. Thank you George Orwell, for your book Animal Farm) human, and bingo, my "gay-dar" went off the chart's.
I'm getting up in my year's so I'm trying to get the most use out of ALL my original point & click, self protection items, before the grand kids get them. For FREE, no less.
What should they be, police chiefess? Perhaps you prefer person in charge of the police. Or even less aggressively person responsible for providing direction and leadership to the police.
California: police chief looses pistol, DAs don’t prosecute crime, murders walk free, people pick up dog waste while humans defecate on the street, illegals are given sanctuary, squatters have more rights than homeowners, and priests are atheists.
I used to think that a good example of iron was the surrender of the British Army at Yorktown. As their solders stacked arms their band played, “The Day the World Turned Upside Down”.
A town with a lesbian looking woman as police chief. How woke.
silly me
the chief does have a short haircut
Men or Ladies,,,
Try Gender Neutral.
Maybe I should change my handle to “Anacortes Bob”. Unless I have tickets to a Sounders game so my son and I can have a night out or I have to take the Ball & Chain to the UW Dental Clinic, I steer clear of Seattle, usually taking the 405 from Lynnwood to SeaTac. We lived in Seattle for ten years (’75 to ‘85) and that was plenty.
I carry a S&W .40 Shield. It only a 7-shot but it’s easily concealed because it’s only 1” wide, and I carry 2 extra magazines. It’s my favorite.
.380 is plenty lethal. And way better than a .000
Try carrying 3 pounds of 1911 to a meeting with a bunch of millennials.
Just bought a Performance Center Shield .45. The only striker pistol in my collection. What a great shooter! I really like it.
Oops, never mind oh, I forgot she was a lefty.
This isn't a left/right thing.
She's getting a pass because she's a cop.
Probably checked his voter registration first and found he was a solid commie and thus wouldnt wont to take away a vote for a commie.
No charges, no investigation. The cops just want this to go away.
They'll frame this guy up on something else later.
That may be true to some degree, but I still think she's a protected species because of her sex and her sexual proclivities. And probably because she's a good progressive. It is California after all.
As someone already noted, it depends on the particular load. More importantly, I think, it depends on the person using the gun.
Coincidentally, if you look at a variety of commercial loads, you'll discover that .380acp ballistics cover about the same range you might expect from a 36 caliber Colt Navy revolver. We can all probably name an American law enforcement officer, who very famously preferred to carry a pair of Colt Navy .36's. And no, I'm not comparing the negligent police chief to Mr. Hickock. Rather, I'm emphasizing a simple fact: the skill of the person using the gun may be more important than the power of the cartridge.
Years ago, I met a gentleman who carried (concealed) a .460 Roland, built on a SA 1911 frame. Some folks might consider that "enough gun", but apparently he did not: he also carried a scandium-framed Smith .44 Magnum, as a "New York reload." He was a friendly, professional person, but I don't think he could get a lot of time away from his business(es) to shoot either of his carry guns. And I think that raises an interesting question: who would you rather have taking shots at you? An average guy (or desk-jockey LEO) with more than enough gun? Or someone with the equivalent of a .380, who can probably empty their gun into a target the size of a playing card, at 20 yards, while under stress?
(I guess the moral of the story, if there is one, is: go to the range more often! Practise, practise, practise! ;^)
This article will provide a little more insight into the person we are talking about.
Also some of the comments of local people at the bottom of the story will also be enlightening.

If I were just a mere 10 year's younger, (born 1953) I'd be getting one of those .460 Roland kits, yesterday. ;->)
As a born & raised former New Yorker, (Left New York for the People's Republic of Washington state, circa 1977.) I love the expression "New York reload." Haven't heard or seen that used in quite a while. Thank's, brings back some good memories.
My EX-Father-In-Law, was a cop in Brooklyn, 75 Precinct. Just thinking about him and "New York reload," at the time,(early 1970's) he was issued a 38 Revolver, he carried as personal backup, a German (9-mm) Luger. I won't mention he was HARD CORE GERMAN. Nice guy, but that German attitude, (I'm the smartest guy in the room, but if your the smartest guy, why are you only a cop, that pissed him off.)
;^)
(Oops, sorry - your ex-father-in-law, not your dad! ;^)

(More than a little funny, because it's kind of true! ;^)
Because it can be concealed in a place we don’t go,
