NEW YORK CITY — A new survey found that 45% of Americans claim to have worn the same pair of underwear for two days or longer.

Underwear company Tommy John surveyed 1,000 men and women to determine how long they wear and keep their underwear.

Almost half of participants said they had worn the same pair for two days or more, while 13% said they had worn the same pair for a week or more.

85% of Americans don’t know how long they’ve owned their oldest pair of underwear, according to the survey.

The company states you should swap out your old underwear for a new pair every six months to a year. However, the study found that 46% of Americans have had the same pair of underwear for one year or longer.

The study added that, over time, underwear accumulates various types of problematic microorganisms and fungal germs that can increase your susceptibility to certain illnesses, like yeast infections and urinary tract infections, among others.

The study also states that men are 2.5 times as likely as women to wear their underwear for more than a week.

For the most part, men are lazy ... and never ask for directions.

Both male and female old people leak.

Early twenties are daters and wear stink pretty.

30's are establishing social bonds with others

So imo, the guilty are 40's and 50's guys.

Reminds me of some old cowboy movie where the guys have to swim across the river. “Well, it looks like wash day and bath day came early this year!”

Only when on a very long flight!

(And a shower with fresh clothes after is one of my first needs once I get home or to the hotel!)

“Older people become less hygienic from what I have seen.”

We’ve definitely noticed that as our parents became elderly. The state of the mind seemed to have a bearing. If there was dementia then it was worse than if the mind was sharp. There seemed to be a fear of showers for some reason.

If you wipe the right way and shake off the excess every time then skid marks front and back is not a big problem after a day. It’s the nitwits who never wash their hands after that I have a problem with.

I know. I'm a little different than most people. I shower in the evening before turning in. That way I'm clean when I get into bed. Also we wash the sheets pretty often.
I worry about my parents. They have issues but I don't know when I should step in to intervene. There's no manual on that sort of thing.

My husband volunteers for Hospice, and this is a theme he’s noticed.

It probably would be good find a way to intervene kindly. UTIs can be lethal, and they are common if a person’s hygiene is a little “off” — especially for women.

“had worn” as in ever.

Exactly. You would think FReepers never went hunting/camping/climbing/had a date that went really well.

Still, there is the ritual burning of the underwear after the adventure.

On a side note... I’ve always wondered about people who sleep in the nude. I mean, how do they scratch things in the middle of the night? Do they wake up with really nasty smelly fingertips?

Ewww!

Yeah me too. I try not to crap or piss in them so they stay pretty clean. Seems a lot here might have a problem doing that.
