Teslas Model 3 is cheaper on a total cost of ownership basis than competing luxury sedans from BMW and Mercedes, but a Toyota Camry? Model 3 is a state-of-the-art electric vehicle with a 5-star safety rating and a driving experience thats gotten rave reviews from every auto mag under the sun. Is it possible that its even in the same price class as the entry-level, reliable-but-dull Camry?
the figures for an Audi A5, and the result is
embarrassing? Game-changing? Adjectives fail us. The cost per mile of the German sedan over 5 years comes out to $0.80, a little less than double that of Model 3.

The price to own Camry is pulled from you know where.
I have no idea how do they manage to spend that much on maintenance.
Do you know how to access an embedded link?
It would be really interesting to know the cost of gas and electricity used for the study. Those costs vary widely by location. Do the Tesla’s numbers include Supercharger access, and if so, what percentage?
Are subsidies included in the tax number for the Tesla? What is the sales tax rate used in the calculation?
How do they arrive at the maintenance costs? What assumptions are they making?
How many total miles are they basing this on?
How in the world can the Camry’s financing cost be so low, and the other so high? You would think that financing costs would be a fairly constant percentage of the purchase price. But they claim that financing the Audi is 6 times the cost of financing the Camry, when the Audi costs less than twice as much. What down payment are they basing this on?
Did you know that there is no such thing as an ‘embedded link’? A link has no other names. Adding additional words doesn’t make you sound smarter, just more ignorant of the term you are decorating. Again, short on facts.
Win win!
I miss that truck...
As usual, an electric car propaganda piece that doesnt show their math but makes wild claims.

First, it kind of helps to actually read the article.
Then the links in the article need to be read.
And comprehended.
Possibly something else is at work here?
Psychological projection is a defense mechanism people subconsciously employ in order to cope with difficult feelings or emotions. Psychological projection involves projecting undesirable feelings or emotions onto someone else, rather than admitting to or dealing with the unwanted feelings.

Maybe it was not bright red for you? Blinking? 72 point txt?
Allow me to define the terms, and I can win ANY argument!
An old line.
Embedded. Creating an embedded link with text. A little tougher to define, embedded links are just another way of saying a link that when clicked, leads somewhere else. Embedded links can be more than text though. You can embed an image as a link to another page on the web.

Behind the Numbers
The base price of the Model 3 is 42% higher than the base price of the Toyota Camry; however, total cost of ownership of the Model 3 is just 13% higher than the total cost of ownership of the Toyota Camry. The Model 3 costs $7,220 per year, $847 more annually than the Camry at $6,373. For all car models we compared, we based our analysis on a 6% sales tax, 3.5% annual insurance increase, and 1.1% annual license tab fee. Regarding fuel and electricity differences, the U.S. Energy Information Administration reported prices of $2.37 per gallon and $0.12 per kWh. The average American drives 13,476 miles per year, and we calculated Tesla owners spending $541 on electricity annually, which saves $947 in fuel costs annually, or $15.43 per charge.
Author should take another stab at this on resale value.

I drive a Charger with 85k on it. I get 27-30 mpg. Most maintenance is tires and oil changes .. so far. 3 sets of tires= 2500, oil change my self= $30 x 16 ( every 5k) =480, Add in one more thing I did the spark plugs myself= $50,( dealer cost would have been $450) totals= $2500(tires) +$480(oil) +$ 50( sparkplugs+ intake gaskets) = $3030 dollars, I forgot to add 2 sets of brake pads, about $160
final costs, $3190 which is about 25 cents a mile in maintenance cost, + about 10 cents a mile in gas. so 35 cents a mile for a charger.
How do you spend 10K in maintenance costs at 200K? Stop letting your dealer pick your pocket.
I miss that truck...
All gearheads have one or two, they wish they had kept forever.
Trust me, I have more fingers on one hand than the number of non-warranty times I’ve let a dealer or any other ‘mechanic’ touch my cars. Literally. And that is over a number of decades.
I was trying to be a bit generous, in thinking that most people actually do let mechanics work on their cars (kind of like sending one’s kid to public school, or one’s daughter to Jeffery Epstein, as far as I’m concerned).
So I was figuring tires are at least half of that cost (you’re showing 3 cents per mile on the charger), then your assorted scheduled maintenance items, and then one or two significant things break towards the end, like AC or some buried sensor. So I can see $10k.
But the BIG VARIABLE for Tesla kooks is what happens to them when their car is off warranty. Camry’s have DECADES of excellent reliability history. Tesla’s, well, I guess they have Musk’s word that they’ll hold up...

See how little damage it took to “total” it.

I have seen Teslas with less damage totaled.
Put all the make power parts on it and the go anywhere parts on it I could find, including the TRD super charger and headers, and with all Amsoil fluids, constant detailing and excessive maintenance, Im sure it would have lasted forever.
Sadly, that glorious machine was taken from me. At the light near the house.
The light was green. Thats what the witness told the cops. I was the first vehicle at the light. Was.
The woman in the other car saw a yellow light or a yellowish red light and went for it. Had it up to ramming speed when she hit me.
Poor truck was killed instantly. Me? I woke up some time later in a cold, bright room on a very cold steel table, wearing only my underwear and having no idea where I was or why I was as I was.
Not since those keggers back in high school have I woke up anywhere close to like that, but this time, no matter how hard I tried, I couldnt explain any of it to myself. So, I asked for a blanket. What a strange day.
I let them keep me overnight. The world was very, very surreal for a long time after that one. I dont recommend head trauma. Had some experience with it and I dont want anymore, but the surreal world part was kinda cool while it lasted.
Im thinking Texasgator must be a lib troll from Austin where economics doesnt matter.

Doesn’t tessa still get government subsidy per car sold?
I’m not going to buy one.

After spending time with a quality vehicle, you can become attached. And learn how to keep them happy and healthy.
When working them they will tell you if they make up that hill in second. Or better to drop back to first.
I drove an older Ford 3/4t with a big block and a million miles. Minus 20 and it would start A-OK (Mobil 1) if it got scratched loading up at Home Depot, who would notice?
BUT! But never go over 65 MPH cause it gets hot FAST!!!
It belonged to the company I worked for, one day the owner’s nephew was moving and borrowed it. Yes, he was famous for smoking the tires doing donuts in the parking lot. His Suburu rice rocket, who cares?
I told him DO NOT DRIVE IT HARD AND WATCH THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE... He killed it.
They bought me a new Chevy something the other, nothing special.
Mine was a 72 F250 with a 390 4 barrel ... green, fun to drive and pretty much indestructible, well, other than the grill.
And I didnt do that. The company owners cousin did it, which is why I didnt let him drive it any more, but you didnt hear that from me.
The homeless are smart, You know why they're homeless? they said f it, im not driving anymore - Bill Burr.
