Video has emerged of a crowd taunting and throwing projectiles at police during an eight-hour standoff on Wednesday in Philadelphia during which six officers were shot and two others were held hostage.
Maurice Hill, 36, was taken into custody by a SWAT team, emerging with his hands in the air after the authorities shot tear gas into the home where the gunshots were coming from, police source Eric Gripp said.
Harrowing footage of the onslaught of AK-47 gunfire was captured by home surveillance camera across the street from the assault, as police also endure abuse from the bystanders who cheered on the suspect.
On Thursday morning, President Donald Trump tweeted: 'The Philadelphia shooter should never have been allowed to be on the streets. He had a long and very dangerous criminal record. Looked like he was having a good time after his capture, and after wounding so many police. Long sentence - must get much tougher on street crime!'
Hill's criminal record prior to Wednesday's shooting shows several weapons charges from 2001 as well as one open case dating back to a 2007 arrest, for which he is currently awaiting a pre-trial conference, according to records DailyMail.com obtained from the Pennsylvania court system.
Those charges include one count each of burglary, criminal trespass, escape or failure to return after temporary period of leave, illegal taunting of a police animal, and resisting arrest.

I am against ‘red flag’ laws but I am 100% in favor of stiffer sentences if you use a gun illegally.

The police chief should have told his negotiators to get the bad guy to cease fire while the two trapped officers came out and then he would pull all his folks out of the neighborhood. Let them suffer any resulting problems.

Establish “No Go Zones/Areas with well marked perimeters.
Never send cops, firemen, EMTs or any city worker into those areas.
Amazon, USPS, Fed Ex and UPS should say these are no delivery from their people. Anyone who lives in these No Go areas, has to come outside to get mail or packages.
And the NFL just hired these folks to run all their halftime and full spectrum of entertainment and advertising outputs.
