The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) filed a lawsuit on Tuesday to block a Trump administration policy that fast-tracks deportations of illegal aliens.
The lawsuit, which was filed on behalf of immigrant-rights groups We Count! and Make the Road New York, argues that President Donald Trumps expansion of expedited removal has stripped immigrants of due process and has led to wrongful deportations.
Hundreds of thousands of people living anywhere in the U.S. are at risk of being separated from their families and expelled from the country without any recourse, ACLU lawyer Anand Balakrishnan said in a prepared statement released Tuesday. This is a dramatic and illegal escalation in the Trump administrations attacks on immigrant communities.
The case, which specifically targets acting Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan, was filed in the U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C.

The ACLU was founded in 1920 by a committee including Helen Keller, Roger Baldwin, Crystal Eastman, Walter Nelles, Morris Ernst, Albert DeSilver, Arthur Garfield Hays, Jane Addams, Felix Frankfurter, Elizabeth Gurley Flynn, and Rose Schneiderman.[13] Its focus was on freedom of speech, primarily for anti-war protesters.[1] During the 1920s, the ACLU expanded its scope to include protecting the free speech rights of artists and striking workers, and working with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) to decrease racism and discrimination. During the 1930s, the ACLU started to engage in work combating police misconduct and supporting Native American rights. Many of the ACLU's cases involved the defense of Communist Party members and Jehovah's Witnesses. In 1940, the ACLU leadership voted to exclude communists from its leadership positions, a decision rescinded in 1968. During World War II, the ACLU defended Japanese-American citizens, unsuccessfully trying to prevent their forcible relocation to internment camps. During the Cold War, the ACLU headquarters was dominated by anti-communists, but many local affiliates defended members of the Communist Party.
By 1964, membership had risen to 80,000, and the ACLU participated in efforts to expand civil liberties. In the 1960s, the ACLU continued its decades-long effort to enforce separation of church and state. It defended several anti-war activists during the Vietnam War. The ACLU was involved in the Miranda case, which addressed conduct by police during interrogations, and in the New York Times case, which established new protections for newspapers reporting on government activities. In the 1970s and 1980s, the ACLU ventured into new legal areas, involving the rights of homosexuals, students, prisoners, and the poor. In the twenty-first century, the ACLU has fought the teaching of creationism in public schools and challenged some provisions of anti-terrorism legislation as infringing on privacy and civil liberties. Fundraising and membership spiked after the 2016 election; the ACLU's current membership is more than 1.2 million.[2]
Just ignore the courts. That’s what the left does. Enforce the clear letter of the law.
How's that for a topsy-turvy world? The world "Illegal" is applied to the Trump Administration for LEGALLY deporting ILLEGALS. The illegals are merely called "immigrants." The ACLU and author have completely inverted LEGAL and ILLEGAL.
But, nothing new here. That's SOP for the commie left out to destroy the US of A.
Maybe they should try sticking to their charter; The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is a nonprofit organization whose stated mission is “to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to every person in this country by the Constitution and laws of the United States.”
ILLEGALLY
Fixed it.
Why would you do that. You will be very unpopular with BOTH political parties.
With Mexico suing US for ‘not protecting’ their citizens and Venezuela etal putting US on ‘do not visit’ list(sounds like a win/win), wouldn’t the US be within its moral obligation to completely seal border, return ALL illegals and start working on loyalty statements from the rest, and pay their way (the ‘legals’ that don’t feel ‘safe’) back to the barrios and thumb of the druggies?
I always said segregation didn’t make any ‘sense’ as if you don’t want me in your home or business, I definitely don’t want to be there ESPECIALLY if I am paying to be there?
“Hundreds of thousands of people living anywhere in the U.S. are at risk of being separated from their families and expelled from the country without any recourse,
If they’re here illegally, then send them back. Screw you, ACLU. The time for attempting to reason with the left is coming to an end.
Wonderful news. What is the downside?
Quickly? They shouldn’t be here in the first place. Two seconds is too slow.
So who is going to contact the banks involved with the ACLU accounts, and the names of their donors so the can have their accounts shut down because of anti-American activity and supporting Americas enemies?
Same for donors,
Per the 14th Amendment, due process applies to life, liberty, and property.
Sending someone back to their country without due process doesn’t violate anything. ICE should be able to summarily deport illegals.
The ACLU has grown so foul that they defy any comparisons. They are completely without honor and decency,
