PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. (KIRO/CNN) What a Washington woman thought would be a fun and unusual photo op turned into a painful situation when an octopus bit her on the face and injured her with its venom.
Jamie Bisceglia says she intended to enter a photo contest during a fishing derby near Tacoma, Wash., so she met up Friday to take a picture with some fishermen who had hooked an octopus.
So, crazy me. Hindsight now and looking back, I probably made a big mistake, she said.
Bisceglia put the small octopus, believed to be either a juvenile version of a giant Pacific octopus or a Pacific red octopus, on her face and posed.
At first, the animal grabbed her with its suckers. Then, it did something she didnt expect: the octopus bit Bisceglias face.
It had barreled its beak into my chin and then let go a little bit and did it again, the victim said. It was a really intense pain when it went inside, and it just bled, dripping blood for a long time.
Both types of octopi the creature could have been have a powerful beak to break and eat crabs, clams and mussels. Their bites also contain venom to immobilize prey.

Not the same woman. There is at least two of them.
That reminded me of the first time my five year-old ate calamari. I told him they were Italian onion rings.
“Dad, these onion rings taste like fish!”
Darwin runner up.
Octopi are said to be highly intelligent. It probably got triggered when she made a “duck face”.
Hopefully, for her sake, I hope she did. Because she survived, she won't be eligible for the Darwin Award. Had she died, she would have been an odds-on favorite.
Poor thing............................the octopus, that is.............
Tried that with a facehugger on the Alien ride at an amusement park.
Wouldn’t do that again but the photo was priceless...
Oh wait, that was just a dream
She wishes those were brains.
The insatiable need of the public today for self-attention defies common sense....it’s insane self absorption!
Its a shame it didnt kill her.
Me too!..........
My husband and I DVR Jeopardy, 6 days a week. On Saturdays the show is always a rerun. We have been catching up on the Saturday shows and recently there was a Millennial champion. At every turn he looks straight into the camera. When asking for an answer, he always looks into the camera after he finishes speaking, and if he furnishes the question, he looks over to the camera, too. EVERY TIME. I said that our country will suffer for the malignant narcissism of too many Millennials. They favor selfies over actual accomplishments.
you’re right
Reminded me of a Henry the Chick Hawk cartoon when he had a "Look what I caught" moment:
Which also brought to mind a scientist who said that back in the days when ankle bracelets were in vogue, he waded in the surf at some South Pacific atoll. He felt something slam his leg, looked down and saw a small squid who had hit the shiny object.
That Henry cartoon came to mind as I could see the squid dragging the guy home, proudly saying "Hey dad . . ."
Really?
It’s really everywhere today with the Millennial groups regardless of where they show their faces. Either they’re crying because their feelings got hurt, or posting themselves taking their own photo. ....and their so called ‘friends’ with them are just stage props. Additionally it’s primarily gals doing so trying to be the next seductive pinup.
Funny. The natural world has lots of surprises for people to discover.
He was gorgeous!!
