here's an art to rebooting, a mixture that's equal parts nostalgia and novelty. Some franchises, like Star Wars, rely too heavily on the familiar, sacrificing what could otherwise be new and exciting. Other reboots offer so little of the familiar that it feels like something completely different, like how Star Trek: Discovery is Star Trek only in name. Very few films and TV shows (think: Blade Runner 2049) really nail this delicate mélange.
But that's why Amazon's announcement about its exclusive TV series based on 1997's Event Horizon is so intriguing. This quirky, goth-horror space film is far from an established franchise. In fact, compared to some of the sci-fi juggernauts that came out during the 90sTerminator 2, Gattaca, The Matrixit would likely rank near the bottom on most film critics' lists.

How can you make a series about a haunted ship that figured out how to make a hyperspace jump to HELL and brought evil back with it?
Making a series out of a horrible movie seems a little silly to me.
I’m pretty sick of TV series drawing out stories that ended long ago.
They probably have all sorts of new-fangled eyeless effects to try on us.
I’d like to see that as well.
“Im pretty sick of TV series drawing out stories that ended long ago.”
And you are not alone in that!
“I misunderstood. I thought he was saying ‘Salva nos — Save us.’ But he wasn’t. He was saying ‘Salva mini — Save yourselves.’”
If they’re going base something on a space horror movie, how about Aliens? At least it was successful.
And if South Park is right, they'll be able to get a bunch of Mormons playing volleyball to help them fight the demons.
I don’t know. I thought Event Horizon was cliché. A group of people get stuck out in space in a small environment with a psycho.
....”A group of people get stuck out in space in a small environment with a psycho”....
Sounds like Pelosi and her “Squad”...

LOL.
I went to see the remake of the Mary Poppins movie and I thought it was quite good until I realized I was in a laundromat.
Event Horizon was the only movie I had to turn off because it scared me so, it got inside my head and three quarters through, home all alone, I shut it off and had to do something else. I think a remake would be awesome.
A mega-billion dollar ship designed with an interior to look like a medieval torture chamber.....I hope they go in a new direction with that one...
Liberate tutemet ex infernis.
The geniuses on earth couldn’t figure that out but a crew member got it just in time....
You just reminded me of Counterpart on Starz and Westworld on HBO. The former was genius--and would have been just fine ending after 2 seasons. But the creator wanted to milk it further and left an opening for a 3rd season on a streaming service. I am now done with Westworld
And frankly, I wish that the John Wick Franchise could have wrapped it up with the 3rd film. I love the films, but I don't want to run the thing into the ground.
