That’s the early work. He’s really amazing. Educated in anatomy, art theory, architecture, etc. Really a model for going by the book. Oh, and he worked dawn to dusk.

Interesting comparison. Both hard-working people who studied around their subject to get greater depth. Bouguereau was what the Impressionists were rebelling against.

Try artrenewal.org . It’s free, although you can get more features if you join. Use the search feature and type in his name. You will NOT be disappointed

I like his work. My wife and I have a framed print of this one in our living room. We bought it at the California Palace of the Legion of Honor in San Francisco after seeing the original there:

Neat! I have a picture of Secretariat in the living room. Cried at the grave of Man’o’War. Tempted to collect all the museums he’s in to show how good he is, but there are SO many! Wikipedia says more than 800 paintings over his lifetime, but more than 200 are missing or lost or unacknowledged in private collections.

Ditto! Absolutely lovely! The flesh tones! The chubby cherubs. The perfect faces and figures! Some scenes so very charming! What an artist! I don't care what critics thought or think. I like this art!

I do like that one. I've never seen that one. Kind of reminds me of this (not by Bougereau):

Critics of the time worshipped the man. It was after the Impressionists rebelled that his work went into disrepute. Sometimes, impressionism just feels sloppy. Sometimes you know the impressionist people have the bottom line skills but are CHOOSING to work loosely. But this guy.... To me, he’s the real deal.

I just saw that in Boston a few weeks ago. It's small, which was disappointing. But my photo is HUGE.

I'm posting small, but you can right click View Image to see the YUGE one.

FASCINATING. Just noticed that yours is blue and mine beige. Never knew the artist did variations.
