Delta Air Lines has come under scrutiny after the carrier reportedly did not allow a service dog scheduled to be delivered to a two-year-old child dealing with seizures on one of its flights.
According to FOX 10 Phoenix, pet rescue agency representative Kim Biggerstaff was planning to fly a service dog named Daisy to California to help a two-year-old girl named Mila Lhautara who was born with hydrocephalus and recently diagnosed with epilepsy.
When Biggerstaff tried to book a flight with Delta, the airline said the service dog would not be allowed to board. The animal was being flown to Mila, as her seizures cause difficulty breathing and Daisy would be able to alert the parents to the potential danger.
While Delta updated its emotional support animal policies in 2018 to not allow pit bulls on flights, Biggerstaff said Daisy is a boxer/bulldog mix. Despite the dogs documentation and training, Delta continued to refuse the animal on its flights.
I said that's discrimination. That's illegal, Biggerstaff FOX 10 Phoenix. They said, No, we have lawyers on standby. We wouldn't do this if there were any legal issues that could arouse.

Why would you get a pitbull as a service dog?

Especially for a 2 year old! But it is half pit - half boxer.
So I guess the dog would only eat half the girl.
(Sarcasm folks! Go flame someone else)
Bingo.
Kudos Delta!
Seriously, are there no dogs of this type in California?
There is a nutjob in our small town with a “service” boa constrictor he wears around his neck and goes to Safeway. Haven’t seen him in a while, maybe the snake got tired of it.
It’s a Saturday morning thing at on of our Home Depots.
There have always been crazy and unstable people. It's a relatively recent phenomenon that that news media glorifies them.
As to the article, there are a zillion ways to get a dog across country. This wasn't done because of the child. The child was a prop so they could attack the airline.
I drove for Trailways for two years. People were constantly trying to pass filthy undisciplined critters off as “service animals”.
It’s time to end this “service” animal stuff 100% on airplanes and in establishments where food is sold.
An iPhone could answer a question, give GPS-based directions, call an airline for stewardess assistance, etc.
Fido, where’s the Delta counter for flight 1038? [no response]
That’s right! I mainly see these people at Lowe’s or Home Depot!
I didn’t know so many dependent people were into home improvements!.............
On airplanes, true service animals are called either steward or stewardess.
The problem here is mostly the “I want/have a right to bring my pet everywhere I go” demographic. They can get a phone app with barking emoticons that gives them “emotional support.” No need for a live animal.
"Delta Passenger Repeatedly Attacked in the Face by a Large "Support" Dog Sues Airline and the Owner of the Dog The Complaint Against Delta - Analysis & Discussion"
On June 4, 2017, after Marlin Jackson boarded Delta Flight 1430 in the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Airport, he was repeatedly attacked in the face by a large "support" dog seated on a man's lap.
On May 24, 2019, Jackson sued Delta Airlines and the owner of the dog in Fulton County state court. The complaint details the allegations against the two parties and asks for a jury trial.
Our report discusses the legal complaint and is divided into four parts: The Complaint Against Delta, The Complaint Against the Dog's Owner, Questions and Discussion; and a Summary.
Jackson v. Delta et al. Atlanta, GA - A man viciously attacked in the face by an alleged "support" dog onboard a Delta aircraft in 2017 has sued Delta Air Lines and the owner of the dog. A lawsuit filed in Fulton County state court alleges that Marlin Jackson was in a window seat when a large dog seated on the lap of a man next to his repeatedly attacked his face while pining him against the window of the plane. This occurred just after Jackson asked the owner multiple times, "Is your dog going to bite me?"
Leading Up to the Complaint
After this attack, we wrote a special report detailing the widely abused loophole in three federal acts pertaining to service and emotional support animals (ESA); the unprovoked attack on Jackson by a large unrestrained "support" dog onboard Delta Flight 1430; the case against Delta Air Lines and competing public interests; the inconsistent federal and airline safety policies in regards to service animals and ESAs; and an addendum about psychiatric service animals.. . “Were heading for a time where the passenger compartment on an airliner is going to resemble a Tijuana bus ... chickens and dogs running up and down the aisles notwithstanding that they would be service chickens and service dogs.”
You must not fly much. Hate to tell you this, but we’re already there!
Except there is generally more adult supervision on a Tijuana bus.
Give me a break.
Cheers!
I would guess 90% of service animals are scams. The Seeing Eye dogs were around for years without any problems And then suddenly all the entitled people felt they needed a service dog too. A liberal grievance based legal system obliged them, and not without the help of overreaching intrusive Federal laws.
And the thought of a pit bull suddenly going full crazy on a crowded airplane is as horrifying as snakes on a plane, and certainly not worth the risk to innocent people to allow them on board.
This is NOT a situation where a person with a disability was traveling with a dog trained to do a task.
The disabled person was not present.
