The Lighthouse is a 2019 black-and-white psychological horror film directed by Robert Eggers. It stars Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson. The film chronicles the story of two lighthouse keepers as they are faced with solitude, but start to lose their sanity and become threatened by their worst nightmares.

One of my favorite actors is Willem Defoe. He was great in The Boondock Saints. His acting in this movie looks Oscar-worthy and Pattinson ain't a slouch either.

This director goes to extremes to get the language and mindset of the period and laborer correct. Love how these men actually look and speak like 19th century lighthouse operators.

Yea . . . no thanks. Why does Hollywood insist on making such horrible, depressing, soul-crushing art crap. I am sure it is well-made, but I have no interest in the subject matter.

On another note... Is this the year of the lighthouse or something? This is the fourth “creepy lighthouse” movie I’ll have seen lately.

I was a lighthouse keeper for a week. Rose Island in the Narragansett Bay. In the middle of winter with no visitors or electricity to the island. (Wind generated hot water was it.) I swear the place was haunted. Very creepy. Would do it again in a heartbeat.
