The timing is perfect, isnt it?
Here come the most searing, sweaty, sun-blasted days of the year, when the temperature and utility bills rise in unison. And right on cue, everyones favorite public agency in Los Angeles has stormed back into the news.
The L.A. Department of Water and Power, infamous for a 2013 billing scandal and other shenanigans, got raided Monday by FBI agents who marched in and carted away records in a corruption probe that also brought raids at other city offices. At the DWP building, nine agents went to one floor alone, and at the end of the day, witnesses saw uniformed personnel pushing carts away. I dont think they were the caterers.
On Tuesday, DWP chief David Wright stepped down and was replaced by an underling Ive known to be a pretty good guy. But can we trust someone who didnt have the sense to run for the hills rather than take the helm?
Its worth noting that nobody was perp-walked out of the building in handcuffs. But the FBI warrant indicated theres a buffet of possible crimes being investigated, including bribery, kickbacks, extortion, mail fraud and money laundering.
The FBI is definitely learning its way around city buildings. Mondays excitement follows by several months a fed raid on City Councilman Jose Huizars home and office, so please update your score cards and keep checking the news scroll for the latest developments.
Among the questions that have to be asked:
Did city officials orchestrate Mondays raids to get our minds off the growing homelessness and trash crisis?
Why doesnt the FBI just open a substation at City Hall to save on commute times?
And doesnt the FBI have summer outfits? Those dark jackets in mid-July were a definite fashion faux pas.

Kickbacks, bribes, overcharging, corruption, cronyism, patronage, payola... this is every city, especially evident in any major Dem city where they tax the highest and deliver the lowest quality of services.
I had the idea that GOP should invest money in State AG races on the promise to audit every government agency and investigate allegations of corruption at all levels. Send in the FBI!
The fbi?
Corrupt crappola
The FBI was only there to seize the records to protect the DWP and assorted Officials because they just got sued again for their Mail Fraud, Billing Fraud and Money Laundering scheme. The FBI wants to keep their cut coming in every month just like the city does, so they raided them, took the evidence and it will all disappear
Corruption?
LA Ping.
Electric rates are going to .22 cents a kw.
Taxpayers gotta pay for the brush fires and give at lest 10% profit to investors and fat salaries to those running the power company.
DWP money is all about pensions and shifting money to the city so the city does not try to raise taxes even more. What they do is illegal but no one goes to jail much in politics.
