grammy might recall that projection is recognized as a common tactic of toxic feminists. do go feed your cats (proof that at least something in your home is getting some, lol).

memory... all alone in the moonlight...

“If you have the time, take a train (high speed Frecciarossa) to Bologna and/or Verona. Both have beautiful, compact historic centers, great architecture, wonderful food, and unlike Venice, Florence, PIsa, and Rome, relatively few tourists.”

Thanks! I was just reading in the Rick Steves forum that 5 days for CT is overkill, and trying to come up with some decent alternatives.

I like Spain though i have had some bad luck there. My experience is similar to yours (Switzerland instead of Spain). I agree with your sentiments. Getting to the Spanish provinces can be expensive. Malaga seems like a bargain and so is high on my bucket list. In the USA I feel that we are fortunate to have a bit of Spanish culture just south of the border, and it is mucho cheaper.

Phew. Do you live on fantasy island. Sad, as our president would say.

I am an old time SF Giants fan, but (sigh) again I don’t think that helps, since it identifies me as american. i think that pretty much leaves me with something like a plain red hat or wwg1wga (and even then maybe only on cruise ships).

(I dimly recall the unsettling sight of armed military standing guard inside the Rome airport after the first of the modern era jet hijackings.)

(Just looking it up... El Al Flight 426, from London Heathrow to Tel Aviv Lod...)

Gee, for a man of the world, you seem to have a lot of time on your hands! Why don’t you go pack your MAGA hat and Fodor’s Guide to Italy instead of weirdly pondering my private life?

I remind you that you came out swinging first on my person. Then you get all butt hurt and your panties in a wad when you can’t take what you dish out. If you can’t stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen!

Now I admit that yes, I have wiped the floor with you about your adorable cats, but at least so far, you have never denied having them as a substitute for human companionship. I would not believe you if you started denying it now. Let’s be straightforward. You are just another humorless, lonely toxic feminist to me, tossing your misandrist waste product at anyone who challenges your humorless toxic feminist misandry. At some point (probably sooner than you expect) you will become incredibly boring, and everyone will just ignore you (except your cats). So you should be thanking, and holding off with the spanking, that i have given you some (undeserved) attention.

Yikes!

Wow! You really do live in cliche-world here. Every woman who disagrees with YOU is a lonely, unmarried, cat-loving old crone instead of a playwright/actress married to a Sicilian who travels abroad to Palermo every year. I get it! Now back to your Fodor’s.

I went to Boy Scout camp one year at the naval base in Rota when I lived in Spain. That was around 1958.

I befriended a little chameleon who showed up in my tent one day and took him home with me. The kind with the bug eyes and claw feet and curled up tail. They move real slooooww.

My parents didn't mind. It had the whole living room to roam. Stayed on the back of the couch most of the time. I fed it bugs and crickets.

They can also change color too, to blend into their background. My mom had an afghan throw on the back of the couch and it sometimes took a bit to find it because it blended in so well.

When we had company over, it was hilarious to see them jump out of their skin and shriek when they realized that there was a small, weird-looking creature sitting on the couch back with them.

The chameleons don't live long away from their habitats so it died after about a year.

Memorable times as a kid.

Right now the only “womyn” I am responding to (to all appearances) is you. I have never p*ss*d on any of “your” threads. Why are you trying to p*ss all over “my” thread? (rhetorical question; not requiring any answer)

And for your information, I’ve been to Palermo, and it’s nice... but there is more to the world than Palermo. Every year I take several trips overseas... different places all over the world... i thought i would pose a harmless *impersonal* open question to usually wonderful and openminded FR folks... but I neglected to consider that any barrel can have a bad apple... and I am happen to be using Steves and Bradt, not Fodor (although I feel that I could probably survive rather well with any of them). I don’t usually bother with feminists who are in the habit of making caricatures of themselves, but since you are on FR I thought you would be reachable... Oh well... My bad...

:(

I think ANY baseball cap would peg you as an American. Also Europeans don’t wear sneakers everywhere.

You really should ditch the Giants. Horace Stoneham was a stooge.

I loved living in Spain. My whole family benefitted from the experience.

But my wife had a bad experience there 50 years later when she took her mom on a 3-month trip to Europe when she retired.

It was at the very end of their trip and they were headed to Malaga on the coast for one last stop before flying home. They were in a rental car and at a rest stop, unbeknownst to them, some Romanian gypsies poked a hole on one of their tires.

They continued on their trip down the highway when the tire went flat. While my wife was getting the spare out to change the tire, the gypsies drove up and stole her purse and camera from the front seat. Her mom was stunned it happen so fast.

They reported the theft to the police in the next town but they said they had this gypsy theft problem for a long time.

They had to drive back to Madrid and get replacement passports before flying home. She lost all of her pictures from the three months trip. She had traveller's checks and very little cash. I canceled her stolen credit card but nothing was ever charged on it the bank said.

They rest of their trip through Europe went fine but ended on a sour note because of those thieving gypsies in Spain.

Rick Steves is a useful resource for travel research and planning, but keep in mind that his travel recommendations are read by millions of tourists who flock to the quaint and culturally authentic places that he recommends and turn them into just another tourist trap for the ugly Americans.
