In Rota, I had my best years in the Navy.
I befriended a little chameleon who showed up in my tent one day and took him home with me. The kind with the bug eyes and claw feet and curled up tail. They move real slooooww.
My parents didn't mind. It had the whole living room to roam. Stayed on the back of the couch most of the time. I fed it bugs and crickets.
They can also change color too, to blend into their background. My mom had an afghan throw on the back of the couch and it sometimes took a bit to find it because it blended in so well.
When we had company over, it was hilarious to see them jump out of their skin and shriek when they realized that there was a small, weird-looking creature sitting on the couch back with them.
The chameleons don't live long away from their habitats so it died after about a year.
Memorable times as a kid.
