Kelly McGillis, who played Tom Cruise's love interest in "Top Gun," claims she wasn't asked to reprise her role in the sequel "Top Gun: Maverick."
In the 1986 original, McGillis' character, Charlotte "Charlie" Blackwood, is not only Maverick's lover, she's also his flight instructor.
Entertainment Tonight asked the actress if she'd attend any of the film's promotional events, and she was diplomatic yet candid in her response, admitting, "I don't know how to answer that because one, it hasn't happened. Two, if and when it did happen, I would have to assess where I am, what I'm doing, what's going on ... I can't project what I would or wouldn't do in the future. I have no idea because I don't know where I'll be."
She added that she hasn't even seen the trailer for the sequel, noting "Movies are odd things. I don't really keep in touch with anybody. I think I've spoken to a couple of people occasionally, but the truth is, movies are very odd work situations because you have a lot of people who come together from all different parts of the world."
Jennifer Connelly has a role in the upcoming "Top Gun: Maverick," though it's unclear what part she'll play. If she's going to be Cruise's paramour in the popcorn flick, McGillis isn't bitter about it.
McGillis, 62, says she left Hollywood entirely in order to get healthy physically and psychologically.

I guess it's just important to her to be married, and I sincerely hope they'll both be very happy.
My father died more than five years ago, and my mother has no other relationships. I think I'm a "one and done" person, myself.
I see your Tom Selleck and raise you John Wayne, Robert Mitchum, and Donald Trump. ;)
LOL, my grandfather (who had been widowed for 30 years) remarried at 87.
Then he ran his “new” wife over with a car about a year later...
It was an accident, a bad one, but...everytime I tell that story, it prompts people to involuntarily burst out with a laugh that they quickly try to suppress...
It must be the way I tell the story.
Sorry but she is an actress and should be given a chance. I would have her walking , and Tom Cruse launches a missle and blows her up.
Thanks.
John Wayne died before he was truly old ... and I associated him so much with my father that I couldn’t even imagine ...
Joanne Dru said, “John Wayne on a horse was so sexy, but on the ground ... just Uncle Duke.”
I never thought Robert Mitchum was attractive. I never thought Donald Trump was attractive.
“I can have a lot of love and affinity for someone who is downright ugly, but is beautiful inside.”
Not that she was ugly, but she was chunky and not all that attractive but I always found Sarah Huckabee Sanders to be hot as he!!
Wife couldn’t figure that one out.
I thought she was deceased.
Good example. I never found her to be physically attractive, but I sure like what she has inside, and could enjoy her company, I’ll bet!
The best of all...
I had a twenty-something girl working
for me who was beautiful and didn’t know it.
The most fetching combination I ever saw.
A Cruise missile?
You know Mrs. Sanders personally? You’ve spent time with her, and you know what she’s like, day by day, in real life?
I worked with a young girl around 30 years ago. As far as looks, she was just your average homecoming queen. In fact she was queen of her college twice.
She was about as nice as they come. I remember when 7 members of Summer staff were supposed to clean up all the straw from a hay ride. These were the leaders of the staff.
Well 5 of them disappeared. She and I were the two left to do do all the work.
I have not seen her in 30 years but my best friend ran into her a couple of years ago. He said she looked like she had just stepped out of her college annual.
She married a preacher and has several kids. We are now friends on facebook and he was right. A 50 something woman who is still beautiful.
Ahhh, that gives a bit more context. Yeah, it will sink in as the personality grows.
She left Hollyweird in “order to get healthy physically and psychologically”?
How’s that working for you Kelly?
Sheesh!!! And Yikes!
... and Tom Cruse launches a missle and blows her up.
OOOooo, that’s good ! But she just laughs as it bounces off her. That’ll leave the door wide open for a blockbuster sequel. Top Gun vs Old Ironsides !
RK **Not that anybody asked, but advice to anyone thinking about getting married. Check out her mom. That will be her in a few years.**
e-one **Solid advice.**
While that worked when I met the mother of my future wife, I also noted that her dad was relatively fit (6’3” and could have passed for John Wayne’s younger brother. Walked like him and even sounded like him). In 77 they were in their 50s. Her mother was very beautiful.
I found my future bride to have the most alluring voice without saying anything alluring. The clincher: at 20, she had kept her virginity, even though she would sometimes have “too many beers”, when out on a date, or barhopping with her girlfriends.
She gave herself to the Lord 4 years after we were married. That only made her better. At 62, she is still just marvelous in every way, thank the Lord.
It’s a good thing Tom didn’t recruit her for Scientology.
Then, she’d be overweight, mentally ill, and BROKE.
Only what I’ve seen of her and read about her which is fairly extensive over the last few years. I do not know her personally although I did meet her father once.
Your point is?
“McGillis, 62, says she left Hollywood entirely in order to get healthy physically and psychologically.”
Smart move.
