I have seen studies that show that for optimal heart health —the ratio of omega 3’s to omega 6’s should be roughly 1-1. Have you seen those studies?

Anyhow how much of the Omega 3’s do you take.

Do you try to avoid coffee/tea/soft drinks so as to avoid acids?

I have most definitely seen the 1:1 ratio and my wife and I try to follow it.

How do we do so? We have no normal oils with Omega-6s and we don’t buy any foods using Omega-6 oils—including canola, which is 2:1 6 to 3 fats. So; no corn, soybean, etc. oils.

We eat normally coconut and butter and palm, but will have high-oleic oils, if it otherwise is low in Omega-6 fats. We also eat avocados and extra virgin olive oil (high in monounsaturated fat), but we don’t cook with or heat up olive oil.

We have salmon at least once weekly and I take a triple strength fish oil from either Sam’s or Costco. We also eat high Omega-3 eggs (660 mg an egg - Kroger or Christopher Eggs).

When you get rid of virtually all of your Omega-6 fat sources, the relatively small amount of Omega-3s you get get you close to that golden 1:1 ratio!

Oh, and we drink coffee occasionally (no cream or sweeteners) and tea (occasionally erythritol or xylitol or the like).

We seldom have soda anymore. The acid wears down the teeth and keeps them weak for about five hours, so brushing them actually wears them down more during that time, even if ready for bed.

Calcium D-Glucarate

Yeah, I’ve read that estrogen is a big problem with the prostate. that the common wisdom that too much testosterone causes bph has it backwards because if that were true —then young men should have bph.

as it is —there is a lot of things that cause estrogen including soy. can you name others?

Actually, the estrogen levels stay rather constant, but for men, testosterone, and free testosterone, in particular, goes down with age. It’s not a big issue, in most regards.

With women, estrogen goes down with age.

It seems the ratio is about as important as the raw numbers have been thought to be.

Yes. Although they are somewhat controversial, the soil-based organisms [SBOs] are worthy of investigation.

I had a long phone talk with Jordan Rubin before he published any books, and before he started his supplement company. He had been written up in a scientific/medical journal, after his father gave him SBO’s. He had been emaciated, and was dying from Crohn’s. He had been given days/weeks to live. No conventional diet or therapy was effective.

We have unnaturally altered our food-source environment; we sometimes must unnaturally augment our food to compensate.

As far as general nutritional supplementation, I rely on the grasses, including bamboo and sugar cane, and other greens, such as comfrey leaf (FDA notwithstanding) and oat straw, for broad-spectrum nutrient density, and for beneficial phytochemicals, such as mucilage, which is soothing and nourishing for the intestinal villi.

This article just might increase the time you have left, or possibly make that time healthier. It's up to you.

South Beach diet or any seafood based keto diet. Bacon and eggs are fine too. Since we don’t burn energy all day like our ancestors we don’t need too many carbs. Sugars are in everything too - try to minimize - as these make you hungry but there’s a big benefit from honey. Just a dollop or two daily in your coffee or tea should minimize colds, flus and sinus infections.

Also since they genetically modify the plants and animals with steroids, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides etc. it is best to get most of your protein from seafood. Sure the ocean is polluted too, but at least it is highly diluted polluted.

And avoid prescriptions like the plague. Lisenpril is the most commonly prescribed med for high blood pressure - it is made or synthesized from the venom of a pit viper so who are the ‘snake oil’ salesman now?!?! Statins are linked to alzheimers. Anything with a long list of side effects should definitely be avoided.

Have you been able to get your doctor to prescribe suppliments—so that insurance will pay for them?

No, I haven’t, but I also haven’t passed on this issue to a local doctor, after I moved to a different state. :-)

I don’t know if these specific supplements would be generally covered, but I do see how more standard vitamins/minerals/fish oil could be. It could be worth looking into, though.

You speak wisely.

Prescription drugs have literally been my downfall in life.

No addictions or anything like that.

Dangerously contraindicated meds given to me and i was too lazy to look them up. Caused a stroke and it was 6 years before I could work again.

The brain DOES heal after the 2 year window and God was GOOD to me. Praise him. And I’m no zealot. Just giving him the praise he deserves on this one.

And YES I read sugar makes you hungrier!!

At my weight an with the way i’ve lived the past 30 years to have a fasting glucose of 85 is ANOTHER gift from God.

But it will not last so it’s time to rock n roll.

Thanks for the reply. It was an important one

Hint watch the videos, the free online book is excellent too just quite involved at over 400 pages.

You’ll live to be 100.

If you can afford it. These days medical technology has a remarkable ability to keep many of us alive up until the moment our money runs out.

The whole point of prevention is to keep us healthy that long. I will refuse technology just as I refuse prescription drugs, which are far too strong for me.

IN my 20s, a dermatologist gave me a tiny bit of local anesthetic to remove a deep mole, which he said might hurt a lot. I almost passed out. He told me he’d never seen anyone react that way, and that I should always be careful.

For minor surgical procedures, I insist on a valium drip with ME controlling the drip. Regular anesthetics are far, far too strong. Even a small shot of valium to “put me out for 10 minutes” for an endoscopy performed by the head of internal medicine at UC MED school hospital in S.F. put me out for three hours. There were nurses standing around me trying to wake me up. I told him to give me 1/3 the regular amount. And he did.

So basically, I’m protecting myself from the medical profession. And dentists. You don’t want to know me if they give me any epinephrine...get so buzzed I can’t stop talking, so they can’t get In my mouth.

This has been working for me for the last 50+ years. Only 17 more to go till I reach the magical 100 mark.

Insurance pays for what your doctor prescribes. I get actual prescription forms for each supplement from my very enlightened doc.

Here’s what I take:

Multi-vitamin, Trader Joe’s is most complete brand
(My dear friend who just retired as pharmaceutical company exec uses it too, says it’s terrific). If you don’t have a local TJ, you can buy at AMZ, but they up the price.

Carlson Wild Norwegian Cod Liver Oil (Important to be Norwegian where waters are clean. Small caps keep it fresher than liquid in bottle. Keep in fridge

D3, 1000 iu, Carlson Also keep in fridge. I use in winter, in summer I get 15-minutes/day of sunshine early in the morning, which provides enough.

Lutein & Zeaxanthin NOW brand is best

Turmeric (Trader Joe capsules are good) Dr Perlmutter suggests one in morning, one at night for brain health). Turmeric requires bioperine to absorb. Trader has slightl more pricey Turmeric with bioperine. Bioperine IS black pepper, which I use a lot, grind organic peppercorns on everything. Yum.

Calcium-Magnesium Bluebonnet liquid from health food store. Keeps osteoporosis at bay. Pricey prescription drugs for it make bones stronger for about 7 years by preventing bone cells from being eliminated. After 7 years, dead cells make those bones so brittle they break at an alarming rate. And so it goes with prescriptions.

MK-7 Vitamin K2 100 mcg, NOW brand
One of its most important functions is to regulate calcium deposition. In other words, it promotes the calcification of bones and prevents the calcification of blood vessels and kidneys

Vitamin C 1000 mg, Nature Made is best drugstore brand. 1 gram C/day prevents all annoying cold and flu episodes for me. If I happen to catch one, 3 grams C every few hours cure it fast.

Co Enzyme Q-10 Trader Joe

Osteo Bi-Flex Triple Strength With Joint Shield
(no other additives)
(Absolutely cured my arthritis pain 22 years ago. Buy in drugstore, works better for me than health-food store brands). Also do a fast mile daily on treadmill or around the “hood. You need that slam-slam-slam to stimulate bones.

Milk Thistle 250 mg Nature’s Bounty drugstore brand
(best source of glutathione, the master antioxidant)

Since my one health problem is my vision, have corneal dystrophy, probably inherited, I think I’ll add Axtaxanthin, as suggested in this article for eye health. The Lutein/Zeaxathn I take actually improved my vision but Astaxanthin is most assuredly worth trying for a few months. Lutein, zeaxanthin, astaxanthin are really pricey. Could get the same effect with a bunch of carrots every day but they have to be fried in oil to release the chemicals. I tried, found it revolting.

One more “supplement” I use is Apple Cider Vinegar, a tablespoon in warm water every morning. Has to be Braggs, with the “mother,” so it’s a live product. It’s alkalinizing for the system has a slight probiotic effect. Can buy this almost everywhere, even Walmart.

Also eat yogurt every day of my life, so I am covered for probiotics. Antibiotics kill probiotics, just as the names imply.

Stay healthy, my FRiend

Barbara

The article mentions PPQ. Do you have any opinions on that.

The more popular supplements in that category are NAD+ and NMN. Do you haeve opinions on those?
