What happens if you don't claim your $125 Equifax money? You lose it
CNN Business ^ | July 27, 2019 | Ryan Prior

On Monday, Equifax settled with the US Federal Trade Commission over its 2017 data breach, which affected 147 million Americans.

The settlement of up to $700 million includes as much as $425 million for individual compensation. With so many Americans affected, it's very likely you could qualify for some form of compensation as a result of the settlement.

And with so many names, addresses, birthdates and Social Security numbers leaked, you could still be at long-term risk for identity theft.

You are right. I did some more looking around and found a couple sites that say you have to do all three individually. You have to pay for each lock and each unlock! They pay if you have had a data breach.

If our media was worth a damn they would have spent more time on this story.

Apparently, I was impacted as well. Odd they want to offer free monitoring after failing to secure my information. Should I trust them?

Thanks! I was unaware of that. I’ve been freezing for free on Equifax (via TrustedID) for quite a while at no cost since they lost my data. I need to do the other two now.

The settlement of up to $700 million includes as much as $425 million for individual compensation.

And $275 million for the lawyers.

(Class action lawsuits are such a scam.)

My wife and I were both affected, and as a matter of principle, I filed for each one of us. But figure in how many people may potentially file, how many people may have passed away in the interim, incomplete/inaccurate paper applications, scammers/hackers, people itemizing the amount of money and/or time they spent repairing the damage, and the court-assigned total compensation cap. The likelihood is, you’re going to get a paper check or pre-paid Visa card for about $.79. About August 2023. It’s like that StarKist class action lawsuit from four years ago, after StarKist was caught under-filling their cans over a five year period. It only got final settlement approval from the 9th Circus late last year, and I haven’t even seen a tuna sammich out of it yet.

You are welcome. I froze all 3 right before the new rules went into effect. I just found this snooping around.

And once they have the first 3 digits and the last four, there’s only the middle two to guess.

You need to give them some info about yourself, so they can check, whether you were affected. Did you expect them to be psychic and just get your vibes?

You do realize that the Settlement Administrator is a financial institution that has been designated to handle the settlement applications, don't you?

Probably not since ignorance and paranoia still run rampant even on this conservative website........Apparently you're infected too....LOL!
