Darius Brown, from Newark, New Jersey, was diagnosed with developmental delays, including speech delay, comprehension delay and fine motor skills delay, when he was just two years old. Since then, his mother, Joy Brown, and his older sister, Dazhai Brown-Shearz, have been working hard to encourage him to improve those skills.
Dariuss breakthrough came at the age of eight, while his sister was in cosmetology school. Dazhai was making hair ribbons for little girls and thought Darius could benefit from helping out with the project.
With his fine motor skills, he wasnt able to really use his hands well tying a shoe was challenging, says Dazhai. My mother and I came up with the idea that if he helped us with things like prepping the ribbon or cutting it, and sewing fabric together, it would help him. And it did it worked!
Before long, Darius was getting good at making things with ribbon and was falling in love with his new hobby. He began to fashion bow ties for himself and wore them to school (and everywhere else) every day. Everywhere he went, people would ask him where they could buy a nice bow tie like his, so he started his own shop, Beaux & Paws, where he sold bow ties for people and their pets.
But the story doesnt end there. Dariuss love for animals runs deep, so when he heard about all the displaced dogs and cats flooding shelters after the devastating effects of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, he knew he had to help in the only way he knew how. In an effort to help more animals get adopted from those overcrowded shelters, Darius began sending bow tie donations to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Good story for a change and a thoughtful kind young man to go with it.
I can’t go to shelters or look at abandoned and abused cats and dogs. Our place is full and I can only have the time to love so many without neglect. We have all enjoyed a quiet morning and breakfast on and around the porch. Time togo to work.
Love this. I would like to buy a small bow tie for my cat. Where can I get one? I don’t have Facebook. Just need a place to send a check.
I have 2 little chihuahuas that I love dearly. I woulds love to adopt more!
Thanks for the great story, Pining!
Check this out, Undeaders! Lots of ideas for the fur babies!

We have gotten a few kittens over the years from people we knew who were having trouble placing them, and they were basically surplus "barn cats" that needed a new home. Our last two cats came from a local shelter; the moggy we had for many years was quite young at adoption, the current ginger tom was ostensibly two years old. He is probably ungrateful too... but he is unusually affable, has an interesting, oversized personality and keeps us empty-nesters from ossifying more than we already do.
I don't think I could get a bow tie on this current lounge leopard, but he'd sure look good in one.
Heartwarming story. A win-win for everyone.
Thanks for posting.
Bravo for Darius...Find a passion and stick to it.
That’s awesome! I will have to watch for the episode. This is a wonderful story that really warms my heart. The bow ties are very cute, too.
Heart warming story, thanks for posting it.
What a great kid.
Thanks. I would take that dog on the right home if I could. What sweet eyes he has.
I don’t know where to find that information. I’m not on Facebook, either. Sorry.
