Netflix has vetoed Designated Survivor‘s hope for a fourth season, cancelling the ABC cast-off after a 10-episode try-out on the streaming service.
“We are proud to have offered fans a third season of Designated Survivor, and will continue to carry all three seasons for years to come,” reads a statement from Netflix. “We’re especially thankful to star and executive producer Kiefer Sutherland, who brought passion, dedication and an unforgettable performance as President Kirkman. We’re also grateful to showrunner/executive producer Neal Bear for his guiding vision and steady hand, creator/executive producer David Guggenheim and EPs Mark Gordon, Suzan Bymel, Simon Kinberg, Aditya Sood and Peter Noah along with the cast and crew who crafted a compelling and satisfying final season.”
The Sutherland-led political drama was cancelled by ABC in May 2018, after its sophomore run (averaging 3.9 million total viewers and a 0.7 demo rating) dropped 30 and 40 percent from its freshman season. Then-ABC chief Channing Dungey explained at the time, “We were less confident with the creative path forward than the other shows we brought back.”
Designated Survivor underwent three backstage shake-ups during its first two seasons. Amy B. Harris (Wicked City) originally served as showrunner on the series (which was created by David Guggenheim), only to be replaced in May 2016 upon its official pickup, with Jon Harmon Feldman (Blood & Oil). Feldman left in December 2016, and was succeeded by Jeff Melvoin (Army Wives). And then The Good Wife grad Keith Eisner stepped in to run Season 2.
Four months after ABC gave the series the hook, Netflix stepped in to “save” Season 3, with ER vet Neal Baer at the helm. TVLine readers gave those 10 episodes an average grade of “B+,” though some took issue with the TV-MA themes, language and content.
The gay sex and transgender BS sealed it for me.. I got up, looked at the wife and said F this crap... I’m done. Wife hasn’t watched it since either.
That’s when I knew the show was done.
After the first season it went full SJW anyway.
Should have been called Designated Woke SJW.
My opinion EXACTLY!
Season 1 was great.
Season 2 was watchable.
Season 3 was so bad that after just a couple of episodes then I turned it off.

I was watching a Brazilian dystopian show, “3%”. They managed to squeeze both gay sex and a shehe into the third season. They both serve absolutely no plot point, but they’re there just because those genius minds are needed to thwart evil or something ... freaks!

How Keifer went from a badass that made James Bond look like a wuss, to a flaming liberal pussy is beyond me. As smart a move as his country music! Had a great thing going with 24 and blew it!
Ditto. I watched about 3 episodes because Sutherland was in it and I was hoping for more 24. As soon as the only ‘designated baddies’ were Conservatives/Republicans/ anyone who was really GOOD, I stopped . I have never gone back to it.

Talk about “if looks could kill” she had some facial expressions that had me howling at the TV set back in the early seasons.
Leor or whatever his name was.....the brilliant quirky guy ( don’t know his position) was interesting and reminded me of Stephen Miller
Actually, he was the governor of Michigan.
The governor of Michigan blamed the destruction of the Capitol Building on muslims and started going after all the muslims in his state.
The muslims (of course) had nothing to do with the attacks (naturally) so Keifer (as the president) had the governor arrested and thrown in jail.
That same actor played the former mayor in the TV series “Jericho” more than a decade ago.
I enjoyed the show for the first season then it became more twisted calling conssrvatives fascists and introduced two gay black men including a scene having anal sex. And around the same time introduced a transgender....glad it’s done.

Senate vacancies are filled by the state governors.
House vacancies are filled by special election.
