These are fantastic! Thanks so much for posting. I’ve not heard of 95% of the artists shown through 1621. So very fascinating.

I think a lot of those portraits were as accurate as photographs, but of course it would depend on the artist wouldn't it. You can look at painting of someone like John Quincy Adams and then look at his photograph and see how spot on those paintings are so I would assume paintings of say Jefferson and Washington and beyond even though there are no photos of them are pretty spot on as well.

That was a lot of fun to watch!

One day I will pick up my oils again. It’s been too long.

That was lovely. The soft dissolve between the music pieces was done beautifully. Thank you. Was the work yours?

Interesting. Colors for either the backgrounds or the people wash out in the 20th century. The effect is to make everything less substantial.

Great stuff, and thanks for posting. That portrait of Olga Picasso reminds us just how good the guy really was.

Thanks. My favorite was "Piano Practice Interrupted". I could spend hours looking at such paintings.

I was just inches away from a medieval painting at the Getty Museum recently when one of the security people admonished me. I was incredulous at how well preserved the yellow paint was after so many hundreds of years.

The price I paid for the opportunity was a lengthy appreciation of the landscaping.

Portraits from 1519 to 2019

and the length of the video is 15 minutes 19 seconds.

That’s an interesting test of editing.
