I’ve always wondered if (1) They always played the solo way each way, and (2) if anybody would notice if the solo went wierd and different one time.

One of the two songs you’re not allowed to play in guitar stores.

I’ve never heard the song. Yes, that is true.
Unless I heard it and didn’t know the name.

Overplayed but undeniably great. And that ultra juicy stratocaster tone — truly epic.

Never “got” Free Bird.
Except in “Adventure”.

I prefer the Allmans, but Skynyrd has some great songs. I wouldn’t put Free Bird in the top 3, though. For me, that would Simple Man, Tuesday’s Gone, and Sweet Home Alabama.

Still touring after 50 years?
Them and The Stones.
Gotta love these old rockers.
Nobody smokes anymore so gotta use cell phones instead of lighters now.

I'm sorry if this is sacrilege, but I think "Free Bird" is one of the stupidest songs ever written. That and "Old Time Rock and Roll" by Bob Seger. Horrible lyrics. Tone-deaf melodies. Totally overhyped crap.
"Sweet Home Alabama" is by far a better anthem for Skynard. And I've always thought "Roll Me Away" was Seger's tour de force.

There was a Mexican joint down in Old Town, San Diego, and in it there was a Mexican guitar player who would stroll up to my table every time I went there, and he would ask if he could play me a song. I always asked if he knew Freebird, just to get rid of him.

Always liked the "Free Bird" song by Leonard Skinner.
Right up there with "Stairway to Heaven" by Lead Zeppelin.

I never thought it was even the best Lynyrd Skynyrd song. That honor would go to Tuesdays Gone.

Many youtube videos explaining the details of the crash. One of them says one of the engines caught fire on one of the legs of the flight that crashed but, after the planed landed, cooled down, and refueled, some of the band members and crew wanted to take the equipment truck to the next destination, Baton Rouge, but Ronnie Van Zant persuaded them into continuing on that plane.

I used to have one of the live LPs where RVZ says, “What song is it you wanna hear?” and of course the crowd yells, “Freeeebirrrrrd”. And RVZ says, “Yeh, I heard it then.”
