If Maverick was still a Captain, he would have been given his walking papers. Move up or out.A Captain in the Navy is an O-6. In the other branches an O-6 is a full bird Colonel. I know in the trailer it is questioned why he isn't an Admiral by now. I've seen Captains with 30+ years of service but I'm pretty sure they were all prior enlisted.
