A Captain in the Navy is an O-6. In the other branches an O-6 is a full bird Colonel. I know in the trailer it is questioned why he isn't an Admiral by now. I've seen Captains with 30+ years of service but I'm pretty sure they were all prior enlisted.

My dad was an O-5 with 30 years in, but that was back a ways.
