The Defense Department might be prohibited from naming assets after Confederate symbols should an amendment added to the House defense budget make its way into the final version of the law.
The amendment, added Thursday to the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2020, was submitted by Rep. Gregory W. Meeks, D-N.Y. The annual legislation cleared the House on Friday by a vote of 220-197.
The Army and Navy are now the only branches of the military with any assets named after symbols of the Confederacy, according to a September 2017 Congressional Research Service report on Confederate symbols on federal land.

No.
Never stated they were not “real” Americans. Just that they were not considered American Veterans by the Government of the United States. That is a fact.
Sherman, THE DESTROYER & WAR CRIMINAL, never owned a single slave BUT the famous GEN U.S. Grant owned 2 slaves (They were listed by name on his Personal Property List) until all Union officers were ORDERED to free their slaves in 1864, by the Secretary of War.
(Grant was far from the only Union officer who had “body servants “.)

That is about the most incredible bunch of baloney I have ever seen on one of these lost cause scripts. Other than Sherman not owning a slave there is literally nothing in it that is correct.
You are welcome to hold any OPINION that you wish, as it’s called FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION but you are WRONG.
WHEN/IF you have spent over 15 years doing research from the original documents of TWBTS era (rather than the FICTION & REVISIONIST PROPAGANDA, that often passes for “history” in 2019), which I did when I was working on the doctorate (that I never completed, btw), I’ll patiently listen to your untutored opinions.
(Titus Grant, who was one of GEN Grant’s “body servants”, in his old age, wanted to be buried with GEN Grant.= I find it “interesting” that he adopted his former owner’s name.)
It is also DOCUMENTED FACT that U.S. Grant, before TWBTS, was a SLAVE OVERSEER & was known “- - - - among his fellows to be a good hand with the whip”.

US Grant acquired one mulatto slave from his father in law in about 1857. He manumitted William Jones in 1858. What was the name of this alleged second slave?
You are entitled to your own opinion but not your own facts. Nothing you claim is true.
(Titus Grant, who was one of GEN Grants body servants, in his old age, wanted to be buried with GEN Grant.= I find it interesting that he adopted his former owners name.)
If you did all the research then you should be able to easily provide your source for this information.
It is also DOCUMENTED FACT that U.S. Grant, before TWBTS, was a SLAVE OVERSEER & was known - - - - among his fellows to be a good hand with the whip
Likewise the source for this quote.
I think Swattie is thinking of REL...
Nothing “alleged” about this subject unless you believe that the Union Army created FALSE official records to fool historians in the 20th-21st Centuries.
His name was Erasmus Meade. - I was never able to find out what happened to him after 1865. - After that, there is one source form 1866 that suggests that he “left for Colorado” & thereafter he “dropped off the radar”.
(I am NOT sure that he is the same Erasmus Meade that is mentioned in that list of immigrants.)
Btw, I’m away from my library & am unable to give you my sources.
(IF you look, I’m sure that you can find sources for yourself.)
Note: I generally ignore requests for sources, unless the requester shows me that he/she is WILLING to accept the sources.
On another forum, I was asked to find & post a particular document from 1858 that concerned William Lloyd Garrison (YES, the editor of THE LIBERATOR) being a stockholder in a company that owned/operated slave ships. When I posted the PROOF, he requester said, “That’s not a good source” & “Go find other sources.”
When I did find (I was living very near a college library then.) other sources & posted them, the same person said, “I don’t accept those documents either.”
(After that incident, I no longer “do homework” for anybody, UNLESS they want to pay me by the hour to do research.)
IF you/anyone wants me to do historical/genealogy research for them, I charge 100.oo per hour, with a maximum of 400.oo per day.

I looked - no such critter. Also, EVERY credible historian says Grant only owned the single slave.
And you can PROVE what you said? (I think NOT.) = Provide “a laundry list” of EVERY “credible historian” that you asked for their learned opinion & a list of which documented sources that you personally researched.
TWO “can play that game”. =====> LOL at you.
(I suspect that you talked to NOBODY & did NO research either.)

OK swattie
In other words, my first impression was 100% CORRECT about you. = You are nothing more than a blowhard & a DY apologist.
(Are you also a leftist DIMocRAT moron, too?)
Laughing at you, Dunce.

Cite the order that the Secretary of War issued. George H. Thomas owned a slave until the XIII amendment was ratified.
He then offered her a job as a house keeper.
My answer is contained in the final sentence of Post # 69.

A short way of saying your are statement is a bald face lie.
And all the Dent family slaves which Julia Grant had use of, and who are constantly misidentified as either being her property or Grant's property, were female. So Erasmus Meade could not have been among them.
So I would be interested in knowing the source for this information which has escaped every other Grant biographer out there. Could it be that you misread or mistook the information you claim you came across?
At 100.oo per hour (sic LoL) one would hope that he wouldn't be stumbling over the easy ones!
NOPE.
Your post # 78 is you way of attempting to deny that you “know NOT & know NOT that you know NOT.”
It’s NO more complicated than that.
yours, TMN78247
Have they wiped the name of Democrat Klan Member Robert Byrd from every Courthouse, Schoolhouse and Outhouse in WV yet?
