Nothing “alleged” about this subject unless you believe that the Union Army created FALSE official records to fool historians in the 20th-21st Centuries.

His name was Erasmus Meade. - I was never able to find out what happened to him after 1865. - After that, there is one source form 1866 that suggests that he “left for Colorado” & thereafter he “dropped off the radar”.
(I am NOT sure that he is the same Erasmus Meade that is mentioned in that list of immigrants.)

Btw, I’m away from my library & am unable to give you my sources.
(IF you look, I’m sure that you can find sources for yourself.)

Note: I generally ignore requests for sources, unless the requester shows me that he/she is WILLING to accept the sources.
On another forum, I was asked to find & post a particular document from 1858 that concerned William Lloyd Garrison (YES, the editor of THE LIBERATOR) being a stockholder in a company that owned/operated slave ships. When I posted the PROOF, he requester said, “That’s not a good source” & “Go find other sources.”

When I did find (I was living very near a college library then.) other sources & posted them, the same person said, “I don’t accept those documents either.”
(After that incident, I no longer “do homework” for anybody, UNLESS they want to pay me by the hour to do research.)

IF you/anyone wants me to do historical/genealogy research for them, I charge 100.oo per hour, with a maximum of 400.oo per day.

I looked - no such critter. Also, EVERY credible historian says Grant only owned the single slave.

There are numerous biographies of Grant, none of which document any slave owned after 1859. The latest one is Ron Chernow's work that came out in 2017.

And all the Dent family slaves which Julia Grant had use of, and who are constantly misidentified as either being her property or Grant's property, were female. So Erasmus Meade could not have been among them.

So I would be interested in knowing the source for this information which has escaped every other Grant biographer out there. Could it be that you misread or mistook the information you claim you came across?
