With “Midsommar” earning raves and performing well at the box office, horror has never been hotter. And if, as Justin Chang argued in the Los Angeles Times back in 2017, horror has become the defining genre of the Trump presidency, then Stephen King is its patron saint. The master of horror’s many works have seen renewed interest thanks to a slew of successful adaptations, from the box office record-breaker “It,” to its much-hyped follow-up “It: Chapter Two,” and many more projects currently in the works. And while the master of horror certainly is the king of scary set-ups, he says there’s one scenario so terrifying even he couldn’t improve upon it: Donald Trump’s presidency.
During an interview with NowThisNews, King laughed after being asked whether he thought the Trump presidency was scarier than one of his novels. “Short answer to that is, yes, I do. I do think it’s scarier,” he said.
However, King did concede that he predicted a similar authoritarian figure with similarities to the president might come to power in his 1979 book “The Dead Zone,” later adapted into a film by David Cronenberg in 1983.
“I was sort of convinced that it was possible that a politician would arise who was so outside the mainstream and so willing to say anything that he would capture the imaginations of the American people,” he said.
“The Dead Zone” features a power-hungry businessman-turned-politician named Greg Stillson, played by Martin Sheen. King described the character as someone who said “crazy stuff that nobody would possibly believe or so we thought, until Donald Trump came along.”
“My worry at the time that I wrote ‘The Dead Zone’ was that somebody like Greg Stillson might actually get elected and rise through the ranks, become president of the United States and start World War III,” King added. “But we do seem to have a Greg Stillson as president of the United States.”

Bravo. Attractive are Dean Koontz and Ann Rice. Repulsive are Steven King and Clive Barker. Koontz is an awesome writer. Trump is the best president for our times.
I’ve enjoyed many of King’s books but as a political commentator he needs to grab his ears and pull his head out of his posterior.
I’ve long believed that King has been both mildly insane and significantly brain-damaged ever since he was nearly killed when hit by a car back in 1999.
And of course he was pretty weird even before that.

Nope. The group of kids are pre-teens—all of them are eleven years old. One girl, and six boys. They are trapped in a sewer and figure out that the only way to escape and stop the clown is to have an orgy. The girl initiates it. The book describes this sexual encounter in graphic detail, for several pages I think. King did not portray this as some sort of tragic mistake, ala Lord of the Flies. No, he portrays it as a positive experience and the way the kids defeat the clown.
King is yet another hateful leftist who would support someone else (antifa, jihadist mulim, the federal or state government through the fbi or dea) killing you.

I only learned about this a year or two ago. When I heard it, I found it hard to believe but found the passage online.
Before this I was already not a big fan of King because I was familiar enough with how he constantly defames Christianity by making all Christian characters in his stories out to be evil or stupid or worthless. He goes out of his way to do this and even evoke very specific emotions of loathing, hate, and violence toward Christians.
But after learning how this passage was part of the launch of his early writing career, I joined your position of having no use for his writing. It is shocking that the editor / publisher allowed the passage to remain in the book.
I’m sure Trump is very scary to the purveyors of perversion.
Next to the insufferable Clive Cussler, Stephen King is perhaps the most over-rated contemporary writer.

If a conservative doesn’t like a radio station, he or she changes to another station. If a conservative doesn’t like what is on TV, same thing....he or she changes the channel, or turns off the TV.
If a liberal, on the other hand, doesn’t like a radio or TV show, he or she tries to get it taken off the air so no one can see or hear it.
That’s what weirdo Stephen King did. The station that carried Gordon Liddy’s radio show was purchased by King. For a long time, it was just dead air. Then eventually, it came back on the air as a classic rock-and-roll station.
