With the bike tangled under the back tire of an NYPD SUV, the police officer was recorded explaining why he pulled over a cyclist, who allegedly ran through several red lights and refused orders to stop.
Youre riding recklessly and youre refusing to stop after multiple orders when you looked and acknowledged, the Manhattan officer said.
So I am going to use what means is necessary to stop you
thats for your safety
this is for your safety, yes.

Youll get very little support here. For many FReepers running over cyclists is an honorable thing regardless of the circumstances.
I am going to ride my new 1,100 euro bicycle this morning before it rains then watch a movie on my new 1,300 euro 65inch 4K HDTV with my family.
I don’t have a problem with what the cop did.
Cars have license plates and registration records and are at least theoretically trackable. Bicycles do not and they’re getting away with murder *and* using the roads for free as they don’t have to carry insurance, be licensed or pay road taxes. And the great majority of them are entitled arsehats.
Screw bicyclists.
Wow, a bit of a hate boner against bikes? Maybe half a dozen people a year are killed by bikes in the US. And why would you want track bikes anyway? Road taxes pay for general funds, not roads. You’re paying for roads even if you don’t own a car or a bike and bikes at least don’t damage roads.
If my motorcycle has to be licensed, insured, registered, taxed and inspected as a road using vehicle, so does your bicycle. The wear a motorcycle puts on the roads is indistinguishable from a bicycle.
Also, in my state, road taxes DO pay for roads.
If people need exercise, they can join 24 Hour Fitness. In this country, streets are for cars, sidewalks are for pedestrians.
As an alternative, if they really need exercise and have the money (and yes, most of the Spandex types are loaded), they can go to Norway, where they literally have thousands of miles of bicycle highways, with grade separations at road crossings. And they’re still safe, for now, as most are not near the cities.
I have just returned from NYC and reading this article brightened my day. Cyclist in NYC are of a different breed. No rules apply to them. They think they own the streets, cars and pedestrians have to keep an eye out for them.
Bikers, I respect.
Cyclists are useless pieces of protoplasm (in NY).
Having said that. If I saw you on the road wearing an orange suit, I would have given you some respect because you made sure that you were visible to a driver. The suit shows that you care about your safety and others.
Wishing you peaceful recovery and healing, both physical and mental.

When a cop tells you to stop you get one warning after that actions ensue.

Bicycles want dirt. Motorcycles and cars want asphalt.
Remove the asphalt and concrete first, like nature provides.
Like Obamacare, bicycles cannot pay taxes for something they do not need.
Glad you’re OK. I used to ride a ton than moved to where it’s just not conducive to ride.
I’m going to Cape Cod tomorrow for work for a week. Taking my bike.
Regarding your insurance story, I once knew a guy who got hit by a car. He wasn’t injured but his $1000 bike was trashed. The driver drove him to a bike shop and opened his checkbook. Got a brand new bike.
Sad but true.

There seems to be an undercurrent of contempt for cyclists.
Yes, I have noticed that.
Enjoy your ride!
NB: Only two things melt in the rain!
Sh!t and sugar.
Being a Deplorable, you’re not made of sugar.
Being on FR, you’re not made of sh!t.
No need to worry about the rain.
That quote came from the Vietnam War via leftist journalist Peter Arnett, who almost certainly made it up.
and yes, most of the Spandex types are loaded
Yes, I have a drawer full of spandex.
Could you define loaded? (A near teetotaler, no problems in that direction)
What would be the lowest entry value for that group?
With and without real estate holdings?
I did live in the Great state of Texas long ago, and living was less expensive, but here in DuPage County Il, it is $$$ and getting worse!
Change your screen name so it doesnt elicit jokes...
The screen name was chosen in a moment of weakness, H. Clinton made a comment about Dumbgrunts!
...well I are one! Or use to be, long ago and far away.
Like the unfortunate ‘Boy Named Sue’, you get use to it.
And I will take all the jokes I can get!!
A guy needs to have some fun.
