A New Jersey dog has been promised a steak after the fearless pup chased an intruding black bear from a neighbors backyard this week.
Mark Stinziano, of West Milford, caught the encounter on a home security camera Tuesday night when the bear decided to raid the bird feeder set up behind his house.
The bear pulls down the feeder and is enjoying the snack when the neighbors dog, Riley, dashes into the yard, the video shows.
Riley crashes into the startled bear, which scrambles to escape.
Black bears are attracted to odors from potential food sources, including garbage, pet food, birdseed and small livestock, according to the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife.
Bears will learn to associate people with food even if they are fed unintentionally through garbage or food items left outside.

“Rileys owner, Alan Tlusty, told WABC-TV that his dog has chased bears out of the yard before, but never with such intensity.
And now the daring dog is getting a reward for its intervention.
My neighbors dog is getting a steak dinner next time I see him, Stinziano wrote on Facebook.
He is an awesome pup that comes to check on the kids from time to time.
Now he is keeping them safe!”

Really not unusual.....
Bears won’t tangle with dogs unless they have nowhere to go...
I hunted black bears for years in Tennessee and Ontario, Canada with Plott Hounds...

Thanks, but I think I caught it all in the gif.
But then of course there’s no audio here. :)

LOL I bet that bruin steers clear of bird feeders for a while. Ol' Riley hit him like a runaway dump truck. Twice. Now that's a good dog.........

This morning I looked out my window to the spectacle of a beautiful cinnamon black bear standing erect on his hind feet while nuzzling cherries off the tree we have growing through an opening in the cedar deck. After he saw me through the window he dropped to all-fours, lapped up a few fallen cherries and skedaddled. We’re only a few miles from prime grizzly habitat, but they don’t wander into our little settlement.
We’ve been without a dog since last November but are getting a pup to train up this fall.

Sorry if there are dupes or deleted images. I'm testing out a new gif-creating site and am still trying to work out the kinks.
Hopefully this gif doesn't self-delete as the first one did.

Best I can do for now. The earlier one self-deleted after about 1/2 hour.

That was a Lab. Lovable, stupid, but NOT courageous. Since you don't think the dog was courageous, I want to see you run up to a bear, bite it, and chase it out of your yard...
