One could say that Spain are the true champions, since they defeated the “US” team.
Maybe you misunderstand. It's soccer. Here in the South that is a game we have heard of like hockey and nothing more. So, "who cares?"

I never understood why people would take the time to trash something they’re not personally interested in, knowing there’s plenty of people who are.
The TEAM was quite honorable - spoiled by one or two making it about them. Allowing a couple to taint the entire team is wrong - what does that say about you?
You're kidding, right? I have never watched soccer in my life. I wouldn't know where to find a soccer game and know even less about scoring and rules. I don't think I have ever known anyone who played soccer. In my youth we had a soccer ball from time-to-time and just played keep-away from each other, only kicking it around, nothing else.
It is easy to trash when the players trash the United States on a world stage, playing up to the ugly American image the rest of the world holds for us. These hate filled women are filth. You say it's only two or three but all of the others didn't resign in protest of their ugly acts. The others didn't take these few out-back to the woodshed and teach them some decorum and integrity.
In the over forty years of my telecommunications career I never felt the need to brag to the world of my hetrosexuality. No one should ever need to brag about their non-hetrosexuality. In the military we were not even allowed to make "public displays of affection", or PDA. Sexuality on a national team should be a verboten topic.

Here in Michigan it is huge. Major League Soccer is filling stadiums across the country. NBC plays multiple English Premier League games every weekend - because the economics supports it.
...it may still be nothing around where you live but I’d suggest you realize that is not the case elsewhere.

Sigh...I respect all FReepers but this vendetta against soccer makes little sense to me. There’s nothing wrong with it. It’s the only sport where I can go to a bar filled with people all cheering on the USA. What other sport does that?
I grew up in the UK and have played many cricket matches, mostly as a wicket keeper. Great game, I really can’t watch it though, just too slow, same reason for baseball but cricket matches can go on for days!

FYI, I graduated from an American high school, my wife is from Michigan, my son is a Marine, and I became a proud citizen in 2000. I have been here for the vast majority of my life.

Ahhhh, grew up in the UK...that explains it! ;-) Nothing intrinsically wrong with soccer (as slow if not slower than Cricket!!), just not an American type sport...represents Euro decrepancy & old world stagnation. I think US MLS fans are cheering for their city...USA national team is supposed to be the “Rah, rah USA!” team...not so much lately.
Just know there are great segments of the country that know or care nothing for the sport of the rest of the world. The fact that it is the sport of the rest of the world is a great incentive for me to actually despise it. It's foreign and alien.
BTW: revenue for MLB is in on the order of $9.2 billion....MLS is $851 million. MLS is more likely to catch the NBA 1st...NBA “only” has $6.3 billion in revenue.

Could you provide a link to support your statement that most of the players on the team are supportive of the nation. I have not heard a single player disagree with their teammates disrespectful actions.
That’s what I find disappointing about this win. There isn’t really another team sport that brings us all together nationally. A couple of the players ruined it for the rest.
IMO...It’s like respecting the office of the Presidency, even if I don’t care for the POTUS. I may not like a couple of players on this team but I respect them as the national team.
...the real irony is that the same players that politicized things are also complaining about how much money they make. As it’s entertainment it’ll be directly proportional to the revenue generated...so of course they have to alienate half of their potential audience. Stupidity at its finest.
