In one year, a single acre of black soldier fly larvae can produce more protein than 3,000 acres of cattle or 130 acres of soybeans. Such yields, combined with the need to find cheap, reliable protein for a global population projected to jump 30 per cent, to 9.8 billion by 2050, present big opportunity for the black soldier fly. The United Nations, which already warns that animal-rich diets cannot stretch that far long term, is encouraging governments and businesses to turn to insects to fulfill the planets protein needs.
People whove seen what black soldier fly larvae can do often speak of them in evangelical tones. Jeff Tomberlin, a professor of entomology at Texas A&M University, said the bug industry could save lives, stabilize economies, create jobs and protect the environment.
Theres no reason why we shouldnt be doing this at some scale throughout the world, he said.

ah long pork
very good Glasshopper.
My two favorite bug/larvae recipes:
1. Feed bug/larvae to chickens. Eat the eggs. If not enough eggs, eat the chicken.
2. Feed bug/larvae to fish. Eat the fish.
I just lost my appetite!
I think this is their way of making a VAT tax increase seem palatable.
I’d rather make my own food and will never eat maggots.
Maggots Are Gross America!
Bingo!
I’m sure Zuckerberg, Musk, Gore and all will be eating insects with the rest of us.

Eat maggots you peons. After you, elitists.
Al Capp had it ALL figured out in the late 40s plus...
Shmoos!
Let the leaders and elites and so-called smart people forever change their diets to this and gain a shred of credibility.
Floes are disease carriers, kind of one huge reason they havent been cultivated as a food source.
We tend not to try to eat inherent disease vectors. Conversely we do a tremendous amount of prep and planning to keep animal food sources safe from diseases.
“inherent disease vectors”
Yeah. Very important point.
But if a process can mahk them un-inherent disease vectors that’s worth looking at.
Though not for terrestrial uses IMO.
You cant make flies non disease vectors. They carry stuff in their guts, and they land on stuff full of diseases. its what they do.
Soldier flies look like black wasps. They aren’t annoying like houseflies are and their maggots don’t look like housefly maggots they are different...dry to the touch, not slimy...looking at them doesn’t make me queasy like common fly maggots tend to do. Soldier fly larvae actually eat housefly eggs and debris so if you have soldier flies you won’t see regular flies much if at all. They’re actually pretty neat and can very quickly convert a stinking mass of wet bird poop and rotting seed hulls to an odorless dust. I wouldn’t want to kill them to eat myself cause they prevent nasty barn bugs and pests, but chickens certainly love to eat them and larva make good fish bait or feed.
Ethiopia should go first. I’ll
be more than happy just to see
the looks of happiness after their
first big bite of a maggot burger.
“You cant make flies non disease vectors”
I’ve eaten Bass and Trout with no ill effects.
Nature does this.
You don’t want your soylant green straight up, do you?
How about eating people? All those aborted babies could be eaten as outlined by Jonathan Swift in his solution to the Irish Problem. Sac.
