Missing 2-Year-Old Denton Boy Found Dead Inside Vehicle

Police in Denton had been searching for a missing 2-year-old for more than 15 hours when a horrible discovery was made.

It was around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday when officers found little Sarbesh Gurung in the back of an SUV at the apartment complex where he lived with his family.

At a morning press conference Denton Police Department Chief Frank Dixon said, “We stand here this morning heartbroken and it is with my deepest sorrow that I let you all know that we did locate Sarbesh this morning, just shortly after six o’clock. He was found in a vehicle and he was found deceased.”

The Chief said the SUV, which had dark window tinting and a sunshade up, was parked not far from the Gurung home and that it was owned by a family member. That person found the child as they were getting into the vehicle Wednesday morning.

“That family is completely shocked and devastated themselves,” the Chief said.

Sarbesh’s mother told police that she had put her son down for a nap and when she went to check on him around 2:00 p.m. the child was gone. The woman said she frantically searched for Sarbesh for about four minutes before calling 911.

The K9s being unable to track the child’s scent suggests the child was carried from the home to the neighbor’s SUV and placed into that vehicle. Who was with the child in the apartment? Answer: His mother.

If we are to believe the two-year-old could open the front door and the door of the SUV from the outside, we should believe the two-year-old could have opened the door of the SUV from the I inside

Methinks the mother needs to retain an attorney.

You may be thinking of Sikhs. Hindus tend to be pretty left-wing, at least the ones out here in Silly-con Valley.

I do not think a 2-year-old could get into an SUV without help.

That's because they cannot. This poor child was murdered. I have zero doubt about that. Too many missing pieces here and I wouldn't be surprised to learn in the next week or two that a family member did it.

That's what the FBI's own crime stats bear out in cases like this.

A terrible tragedy.
I doubt foul play. Kids make up whole role plying game in their heads and act out in play. It is a neighbors vehicle. Kids die in old refrigerator cause their playing and this kid probably locked the doors and couldn't get out. Denton gets pretty hot mid afternoon.

Do you think a 2 year old could open the door of a SUV?

Totally agree. The article says that the family SUV was parked in the back of the complex. After being settled for a nap, he had to get up, go out, find the SUV, open it, climb in (not locked???), and close the door. Story doesn’t say If he was strapped in or not. But if he could do all that, why not get back out and go home, too? The mom’s story doesn’t add up, IMO.

Like the OP, I have to wonder where the SUV was when the cops took the call and why wasn’t it one of the first places to be searched?

Two year old in an suv, someone put him there

If he was left behind he'd be in a car seat. If he was strapped into a car seat it's a slam dunk that it was pure negligence.

Why did the cops not bother looking in the family's SUV yesterday?

It's not clear in the story that it was the family's SUV.

My daughter did something similar before she was two. She pulled out the drawers of her dad’s chest of drawers and got into his aftershave which was sitting on top. We’ll never know if she actually drank some, but she was rewarded with a stomach pumping even if she didn’t.
The irony: Today she’s a ICU nurse, working on her masters.

The article says that the family SUV was parked in the back of the complex.

Where? I don't see that in the article linked above.

Sure, we’ve all heard of small towns where people don’t lock their doors, but I really don’t believe there are places where people don’t lock their CARS. I also don’t believe a 2 year burglarized his neighbor, stole their car keys, found the correct car, unlocked it, and then climbed in and was unable to get out.

"I do not think a 2-year-old could get into an SUV without help."

That was my first thought, but then I remembered my daughter at 2 yrs. old would climb on top of the refrigerator. Then one time when my husband was on the roof fixing the antenna she climbed up there. That girl was a regular monkey.

The original story said the SUV was owned by a family member. Your quote says it was owned by a neighbor. Those are not mutually exclusive terms, but is less specific about a family member bring involved. I wonder why the change?
