Last Tuesday, an Anne Arundel woman pleaded guilty to harboring an illegal immigrant and withholding wages upwards of $150,000 for housework from August 2006 until September 2014.
The Baltimore Sun reports that "Shingaidzo Nhekairo, 50, of Arnold pleaded guilty to 'unlawful employment of aliens' in U.S. District Court in Baltimore" on June 25.
Nhekairo forced the unidentified woman to watch after her children, prepare certain meals, and clean the household without pay.
How exactly did Nhekairo come in contact with the illegal immigrant? The Baltimore Sun's Phil Davis has the story:
According to a plea agreement, Nhekairos relative helped the immigrant named only E.M. in the agreement obtain a six-month tourist visa in August 2006 under the guise that E.M. would be traveling for a two-week vacation in Florida with her employers family.
The person was flown from Zimbabwe to JFK Airport in New York City then to Dulles Airport in Washington D.C., the agreement reads, where Nhekairo picked them up and drove both of them to her home in Hanover.
In addition to jail time, Nhekairo owes the woman, who she more or less kept as a slave for eight years, her full compensation.
Illegal immigrants being taken advantage of is nothing new in America. In 2016, an Indiana state legislator appropriately summarized why many individuals get trapped in this sort of abusive servitude:
"Weve allowed a subculture which I consider modern day American slavery where we have people who come to this country to find a better life, they do so illegally, theyre paid below market wages, and they dont live in freedom, said Ind. Sen. Mike Delph, (R) Carmel. Theyre in constant fear for themselves and their family which invites exploitation. Not everybody exploits them, but there are employers that exploit them and there are criminal elements that exploit them, and that is offensive to the American ideals this country was founded upon.
Nhekairo will be sentenced on January 13, 2020.
The truth is, Slavery is the norm throughout human history, not the exception. Thousands of years.
It was White Christians primarily, who ended it, ironically enough. At least in the West. Slavery wasn’t outlawed officially in some middle eastern countries till the 1970s, it is still widely practiced around the world.
I think this is why Democrats are always so pissy in recent decades, they are getting antsy for some cheap labor and a little do-mestic help.
I smell registered card carrying democrat.
Democrats keep arguing that we need illegal aliens to do jobs that Americans will not do. Reinstating slavery is just the natural extension.
Maybe not as slaveholders, but there are plenty of honkies (and every other color) paying sub-par cash wages under the table to illegals for jobs ranging from demolition to installing drywall.
“Slave”?????
Um, I think the correct term is “undocumented involuntary servitude”.
I heard a Chinese comedian quip that whenever a child is born in Chinatown it’s customary for the father to grab a handful of silverware and toss it down the stairs. Whatever sound it makes, that’s the name of the child.
With open borders she can get a replacement easily after she gets out of jail .... or her family can jump start by getting one while she is in jail. Bringing back the slave market to Maryland.
Sheust be a dem, if she was a republican, this would be all CNN would be talking about...
“Maryland woman”. I hold no brief for Maryland, but to call this unassimilated immigrant an “Maryland woman” is a slander on the citizens of that state.
In DERPSTATE two negatives = a positive! 1 illegal + 1 illegal act = OK for the DERPSTATE!
This is 2019 not 1819 so we're supposed to pay them some kind of token wages to make it look like it's not slavery. This lady tried to get away with paying her illegal alien nothing. That's bad optics for the system. Ask any Democrat. Ask a RINO.
Don't know but the only other person with the last name "Nhekairo" I could find on the internet works at the University of Zimbabwe. It's possible that in this case the massa is not descended from European stock. This could also explain the complete lack of pictures of the perp.
It’s reaching a point where every U.S. household can have their very own illegal alien slave and I just might favor such a thing. Come to our country and be our indentured *non-voting* slave for 10 years then you can proceed on your pathway to citizenship or just go home.
Finally! Someone who should pay reparation.
Typically, the oppressors threaten to go back and kill your family.
Au contraire. With Dems constantly talking about giving even more stuff to illegals, they are attracting many more of them today. Wouldn't you logically head to the country that is even just debating giving away more freebies?
There are au pair programs were people come from other countries to do child care for a couple years, and then go home. They are paid, and they have rules about days off, and such. My niece has an au pair from South Africa.
Was she a Democrat by any chance?
Maryland was a slave state, though it did not secede. Lincoln had to send Federal troops into Baltimore to keep the peace.
And until fairly recently (mid-1980s or so) the Maryland State Anthem, Maryland, My Maryland had the following inspiring lyrics:
The despot's heel is on the shore
Maryland, my Maryland
His torches at thy temple door
Maryland, my Maryland
Avenge the patriotic gore
That flecked the streets of Baltimore
And be the battle queen of yore
Maryland, my Maryland
...oh, and the last verse, too:
I hear the distant thunder-hum,
Maryland!
The Old Line's bugle, fife, and drum,
Maryland!
She is not dead, nor deaf, nor dumb-
Huzza! she spurns the Northern scum!
She breathes! she burns! she'll come! she'll come!
Maryland! My Maryland!
Seems to be an Indian name. At least some of the African countries indicated on the map have large Indian minorities.

Could be she didn’t know she was being taken advantage of til some concerned citizen informed the gov’t...
