May 2, 2019 (The Catholic Weekly) We are living in a unique time in history. Never has politics been so polarised, never has mainstream society come so near to amorality (although Neros Rome came close), and never has it been so difficult for a woman to find a good man.
The latter is, Ill admit, a bold claim but allow me to elaborate.
We constantly bemoan the state of society, the youth, universities, the media, et al, which seem to be collectively falling into ever deeper rabbit holes of noxious regressive ideas, behaviours and policies.
Religious affiliation and church attendance, especially among youth and men in particular, has never been lower. Pornography addiction is a scourge of epidemic proportions among men and even boys as young as 11. Put simply, the world is in a mess.
Youve heard it all before.
Yet one important side-effect of all this that gets little attention is how tough this new environment has become for women, especially Christian women, to find good husbands. The situation is so dire there is now an emerging trend of women abandoning their faith and religious beliefs for the sake of romantic relationships.
Perhaps this is not considered a particularly serious issue when compared with Brexit, abortion on demand or the erosion of free speech, but I would contend it is every bit as important, if not more so. The future of our society depends on good, solid marriages, families and citizens. We need families to produce educated and informed young men and women who will continue fighting the good fight on all the issues confronting our society.
Yet for someone like me a 32-year-old single Catholic the situation looks bleak indeed.

Yes, stepdads who are economically raising their wife's sons and daughters are geniuses and socially acceptable, especially if the ex-husband has custody of the kids forcing the step dad to pay the child support, lol. Sometimes the ex-husband hires a pit-bull lawyer who knows the right judges that will emphasize with the man instead of the mom. Stepdad is stuck with the mom and subsidizing the kids who hate him and their mom.

Again with everything ;) I never used that word, nor would I.
You put words in my mouth. Again. A cheap tactic that does not work on me or rational people.
Your emotions are showing.
Women do indeed f some things up royally. But, like proggies, they cannot, dare not admit it.
How often do any of us hear a woman say (and mean it) Yeah, I screwed up. Sorry. ?

I maintain shes a jerk for requiring that. What is meant by
a jerk? It seems a label that a heathen would use against a woman with morals.
I think some readers lost sight of the fact that when making my assessment of men in the Church, what I was describing was my own subjective experience.
I obviously was not commenting on every man in the Church (I simply havent met them all), but my observations do reflect just that what Ive observed. These are also not just my observations, but those of dozens and dozens of women (and men) Ive spoken to over the years.
Clearly though, there is an objective element to all of this as well:
In Sydney churches, women outnumber men nearly two to one.*
Young men are the most under-represented demographic in the Church.
Around the world, men are less likely to believe in God, pray daily or count religion as an important part of their lives, compared to women.
Its hardly surprising that men are hard to find in the church when there are simply less of them.
This is not necessarily new, either. What makes this era so unprecedented when it comes to finding a good marriage-partner is, I believe, a combination of the effects of the sexual revolution, radical feminism and the ubiquity of pornography.
Contraception and rampant sexual promiscuity mean men are less likely to commit to serious relationships and marriage. The Austin Institute made a fascinating video called The Economics of Sex in which they illustrate this literally. This, coupled with radical feminism demonising masculinity and traditional male and female roles, means men are also less likely to live according to a traditional moral code something women like me prize greatly.
There are plenty of studies and personal testimonies out there attesting to the damage pornography addiction (primarily a male problem) causes, particularly in forming and sustaining healthy relationships. Make no mistake, it is an addiction and its effects can be just as devastating as an addiction to hard drugs. (For an offbeat and refreshingly honest look into it, check out this video of Russell Brand.) To learn more, I recommend Fight the New Drug, a fantastic non-profit which has done a ton of research into the issue.

Lets put it this way:
Socially adept, worldly-wise are not Biblical expectations of a godly man.
She is seeking that.
Does that help?

you have some good points but what is a fact is weddings are way down at all Churches in the U.S.-they used to be booked 6 months in advance and often multiple ones in one day but not anymore-might be people are opting for off site weddings or secular vs Church but it does underscore the authors points

Many believers give up religion, but not their faith.
Religion is a man-made ritual system of control.
And if there were baskets at the door for church congregants to drop their Sunday masks in, theyd need to be big baskets.

You think I have the wrong premise but it looks like our out come is the same.
Stay a virgin?, at 82 I am inclined to agree but at 22 no way.

I can’t see those little ‘rectangles’ that many of you post; so I don’t know if you’d be happy or not.

I have read about surveys, probably here on FR, that a notable (but not majority) percentage of college students do not have any sexual experience by the time of graduation. The number of non-virgins is falling because of bad social skills and too much on-screen porn, as much as risk aversion and delayed gratification.
Here’s a 2013 article I found at health central.com “Just How Promiscuous Are College Students?
Eileen Bailey
HEALTH WRITER
July 23, 2013”:
“The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention back up these numbers. In a 2011 report regarding young women between the ages of 20 and 24:
12 percent of women never had a heterosexual encounter
5 percent had a sexual encounter but not in the last year
58 percent had only one sexual partner
14 percent had two sexual partners
10 percent had more than 3 sexual partners
The men’s responses weren’t much different:
14 percent never had a heterosexual encounter
6 percent had but not in the last year
50 percent had only one sexual partner
12 percent had two sexual partners
16 percent had more than 3 sexual partners
Based on these numbers, and there are other studies that show similar results, the hook-up culture the media frequently talks about is really only about 10 percent of the young adult population. Most young adults seem to be in a monogamous relationship, abstain from sex or are not in a relationship at all.”

Socially adept, worldly-wise are not Biblical expectations of a godly man.
Yes, they are, but surely
jerk is not in the Biblical vocabulary.
A godly wife can have
expectations for a pious husband who deals with his wife, family and neighbors, and the world, according to wisdom.
For example:
γνῶσις => gnósis => knowledge, doctrine, wisdom.
- Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.
...
- Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.
- Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
...
- Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.
- Every prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open his folly.
- A wicked messenger falleth into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.
- Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.
- The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.
- He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

You used the word to mock ME because I used some variant when describing a very obvious truth in retort.
Sorry, the logic holds. You accuse women of causing all our downfall in the US, I point out thru sarcasm (everything) that men ruling and voting for millennia has NOT resulted in wonderful Edens for all time and place.
Thus, women not having any vote would not have led us to a much better place.
Have we faults as a group, or as individuals? Yes. There I admitted that, but I was NOT wrong slicing and dicing your straw man. And again, yeah, sure with your other implication. Men ALWAYS admit they are wwwrrrrong and always concede error. BS.

Well, if shes 32, her dating problems are likely to get far worse. Not interested in some tattoo-spackled purple-haired harpy who cries into her pillow that Mr. Perfect is unavailable. Shes probably spent eight years getting that four-year degree in English Lit or Womyns Studies and is only now confronting the real world.
Good example of ignorance and lack of reading comprehension, if not intellectual curiosity;
She is a graduate of Campion College. It is ironic to read the trashing of yet another conservative because she is not pagan enough for the unwashed masses.
