I ask, because the Framers saw it exactly as I stated it, and so have most Americans, from colonial times to present. The concept was even taught in our schools. I certainly remember being taught that way.

Since you are such a Constitutional scholar I am sure you agree that article 3 states that the judiciary decides how the law is interpreted and marbury v. Madison conclusively decided that the Supreme Court is the one judicial branch that interprets the meaning of the constitution.

So, unless you have a court decision that favors your interpretation it is merely an layman’s opinion, not a constitutional interpretation. Simply put, your personal opinion is pretty worthless absent a court agreeing.

Again --- I'm asking for YOUR opinion on the question of eligibility to be president. What does the phrase, 'natural born citizen' mean to you, and why?

Documentary and historical evidence abounds, that the common understanding of the phrase during the colonial era was, 'born of the land and of the people'. In other words, a person who is born within the territorial boundaries of the nation, to two citizen parents.

A person born in that circumstance is said to be a 'natural born' citizen, because no act of law or government is required to make them a citizen. It is, by far, the purest form of citizenship there is, as naturally, the person can't be anything but a citizen of the country.

While a person who has only one citizen parent may still be a citizen at birth, that person's loyalties could potentially be alloyed because of their natural birth association with another country. Same goes for children born outside the country.

It was the Framers' intent to restrict the office of president to those of the highest grade of citizenship possible, which would be those born of the 'soil and of the blood' (jus solis - jus sanguinus).

This consideration is so strongly rooted in our history and culture, that it's laughable that anyone would question it. It's a fact that, prior to the first decade of the 21st century, it wasn't possible to be elected president without being NBC. It was simply understood by one and all, that that was the basic requirement to hold the office.
