62 People Sickened in Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Papayas From Mexico
KTLA ^ | 06/29/2019

The CDC is advising folks in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island to avoid eating whole, fresh papayas from Mexico. They also say not to eat fruit salads or mixes including Mexican papayas.

If you encounter papayas and have doubt about their country of origin, the CDC says to be on the safe side and throw them out. The agency recommends washing and sanitizing places where papayas are stored, including counter tops and refrigerator shelves.

Meanwhile, the US Food and Drug Administration wants importers, suppliers, distributors and other food service providers to halt sales across all states of papayas imported from Mexico.

Those who are infected can develop diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps between 12 and 72 hours following the initial exposure. Patients usually recover on their own in less than a week, but some people do need to be hospitalized.

I don’t buy even organic from Mexico because everything in that country can be bought. I’m sure organic labels as well.

[You gotta stand behind your fruit!]

Does that mean we’re gonna see Joe Biden standing behind Mayor Pete ButtaGoGo?

(not to give anyone ideas or anything ... wait)

Papaya is the only fruit I don’t like.

It has ZERO taste.

A ripe mango, OTOH, is scrumptious.

LOL!!

I have come to resemble him (unfortunately) as I age.

At a wake last year someone asked me what Family I was with.

then they apologized, having mistaken me for a gangster.

I have Gambino and Colombo friends. That’s all.

Multiple serotypes indicates multiple sources. Were they fertilizing the papayas with faeces? However, 62 cases are nothing. Several years ago an illegal Mexican worker at a Mexican restaurant in Corinth, Mississippi, contaminated the queso cheese dip and there were over 200 cases of one serotype of Salmonella food borne illness. One case was serious enough that the man was debilitated for life. The local hospital was inundated with the sick. Ironically the restaurant, Don Julio's, is still in business.

If I see that produce is from Mexico, I usually put it back on the shelf swiftly. Remember what they use for fertilizer down there. And I doubt they wash their hands.
