Full Title: Florida woman arrested after turning in estranged husband's gun a day after he tried to run her over: reports

A Florida woman was reportedly arrested after taking firearms from her estranged husband’s home to turn in to police, a day after he allegedly tried to run over her.

Courtney Irby, 32, was arrested last Saturday and charged with one count of armed burglary after an arrest affidavit said she showed up to the Lakeland Police Department station with guns belonging to her husband, Joseph Irby, just one day after he was arrested on a domestic battery charge, WKMG reported.

She did what she had to do.
She should have no regrets.
If what she says is true, that he has tried to run her down with his car, she will always be in danger from him.

How sad, that a marriage that produced two kids has unraveled to this degree. I’ll bet she couldn’t believe what she was hearing, when the officer accused her of burglary. The officer was correct, but did she really need to be locked up and with no bail?

If what she says is true, that he has tried to run her down with his car...

The article text doesn't jibe with the editors headline, and says he rear ended her car with his car.

Could be a simple rear ender or an attempt to run her off the road.

I don’t approve of what she did, but it sounds like the cops were out to get her. I mean, armed burglary? Armed? Because she took his guns? That’s not what “armed burglary” is supposed to look like. Moreover, it doesn’t say how she got into his apartment. If she broke a window or lock to get in, okay, but they didn’t say “broke in” so that suggests that she had a key. If she had a key and they are still legally married, I don’t see how she can be charged. She better lawyer up.

From the article in the other thread (h/t but three lefts do)

https://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/3758687/posts?page=4#4

“...When she told a Lakeland police officer she had the guns with her to turn them in, he replied, “So are you telling me that you committed an armed burglary?” and Irby answered, “Yes, I am, but he wasn’t going to turn them in, so I am doing it,” according to reports.

Police verified Irby had never stayed at her husband’s apartment until the day of the burglary. ...”

Finally some justice. You just can’t break into somebody’s home and steal their property with no repercussions.

Hopefully she’ll be sentenced severely.

She could have bought her OWN gun to protect herself.

“So are you telling me that you committed an armed burglary?” and Irby answered, “Yes, I am, but he wasn’t going to turn them in, so I am doing it,” according to reports.

Sounds like she didn't correctly hear or process what he asked her. Again, I don't approve of what she did, but I think "armed burglary" is a bit much. If she had a key and they were married... that's just my opinion.

Illegally entered... then stole guns. That definition of armed burglary happens every single day.

Its a he said she said, we will never know the truth. But it is still illegal to break into someones home and steal their property. otoh. she couldnt have been too scared, she broke into a home where she knew the owner had guns and a beef against her. she could have been killed by the owner and he claims self defense. Florida stand your ground laws have been challenged and they have been upheld in the past.
