My dad did the same, and I still like vinegar on spinach and in bean soup. Is it a Midwestern thing? My wife’s from NC and won’t eat either dish with vinegar.

Woman says she found dead bird in can of Del Monte spinachThat's strange. It was alive when we put it in there.

I am one of those Likers. ...😃 But I'm picky, only the leaf kind. Never chopped. You see, chopped is where the birds are. Angry Birds.

Exactly! I actually said when they told me they'd give me a case of coke "can I get pepsi?" as a joke because, you know, cockroach. They said coke, take it or leave it. That's when they gave me the legal stuff about being totally legit to sell cans of coke with cockroaches in them.
By the way, I chose to just take the soda in large part because in the end, I wasn't harmed and even then I thought frivolous litigation was ruining the country (amongst other things) and I didn't want to add to the problem. So from my perch upon on my moral high horse I declared to myself that I would not engage in such behavior. But I took the bribe offered so I guess I'm not all that virtuous after all.

They should check if she's been reading this book lately. Lots of such ideas on how to get free meals. Hoffman would be proud of her for conceiving a new and novel "dead bird in a can of spinach" scam. That's some clever thinking.

LOL!
I remember one little girl who liked the canned snot so much that she scraped up every tiny shred. The teachers watched in amazement.

Not buying her story. Looks like she shaped the spinach to look like a bird.

One thing fishy about her story is that she poured the spinach into a bowl. Usually if I open a can of something that Im going to heat up, I pour it into a pot first. Then turn the heat on. Was she eating cold canned spinach? I suppose she couldve been planning to put it into a bowl with other ingredients. If her story is true, it is pretty disgusting, but I have my doubts.

Hoffman's book was briefly famous. In the very first section of the book, he wrote:
In fancy sit-down restaurants, you can order a large meal and halfway through the main course, take a little dead cockroach or a piece of glass out of your pocket and place it deftly on the plate. Jump up astonished and summon the headwaiter. "Never have I been so insulted. I could have been poisoned" you scream slapping down the napkin. You can refuse to pay and leave, or let the waiter talk you into having a brand new meal on the house for this terrible inconvenience.
I'm sure you know this, but for those who don't, Hoffman was one of seven defendants (the "Chicago Seven") charged by the federal government with conspiracy, inciting to riot, and other charges related to anti-Vietnam War and countercultural protests that took place in Chicago on the occasion of the 1968 Democratic National Convention.
He was a real (communist) piece of work.

My dear Watson, perhaps after emptying the contents into the sauce pan, she transferred said bird into a bowl. ...
Just saying. ..

Might very well be. I grew up (1-18) in Michigan.
