Why are people thirsty for 'raw water'?
BBC ^ | 21 June 2019 | Tim Smedley

a New York Times article mocking a new craze in San Francisco’s tech heartland for bottles of untreated spring water sold by companies such as Live Water for $36.99. These start-ups extolled the benefits of drinking “real water… within one lunar cycle of delivery”.

However, not everyone was laughing. Some were taking notes. Drinking water is typically highly regulated, and the market for buying and selling untreated water remains small and anecdotal. But the website Findaspring.com shows that “raw water” has since become a global movement of people seeking out their own wild water sources. Eager users list and map thousands of natural wells and springs across the world for people to drink from.

“It’s got probiotic bacteria in there… Drinking raw water improves microbiome health.” He’s also observed that “drinking raw water as your primary hydration for a few days yields noticeably smoother skin”.

The entire country (or half of it) seems to be crazy these days. Why not make a buck off of it? As they say on concrete trucks, “find a need and fill it.”

some salt is mined

All salt is sodium chloride (NaCl), and it all comes from seawater — even table salt.

Table salt is typically mined from salt deposits, remnants of older bodies of seawater that have since dried up and are long gone.

Sea salt is crystallized from current bodies of seawater. Unrefined sea salt may contain impurities, which may or may not contribute to a more complex flavor. Of course, if you look at the amount of salt you actually sprinkle on a large grilled steak, for example, whether or not those trace impurities really contribute much flavor to your food is up for debate.

The real appeal with using "sea salt", as opposed to table salt, is that it sounds exotic.

If people like drinking the water in Mexico they will love drinking that $36.99 bottle of water here.

All the salt in those mines, caverns and domes was laid down long ago from seawater deposits. All salt has its origins in the sea. The oceans are powerful concentrators of salt.

There are an estimated 71 trillion tons of salt below the Great Lakes. Here's a salt mine tunnel 1,200 feet below downtown Detroit...

Backpacking in the Michigan Upper Peninsula along Lake Superior, I was told by a park ranger that Lake Superior water is pure to drink as long as I got it about 100’ offshore.

He was right and it was tasty.

I like to drink this: https://drinkcrazywater.com/

It is really good for rehydration. Might be hard to get outside of Texas.
