On the night of March 9th, 2018, Utley slumped over at his desk. Co-workers noticed that he was in distress when he began sliding out of his chair. Two of them began to perform CPR, but no defibrillator was available in the building. A manager called for an ambulance
They wanted to play it down. I think they were worried about people quitting with the emotional impact it would have.
But the illusion shattered later that day, when Utleys father, Ralph, came to the site to gather his belongings. He walked into the building and, according to a co-worker I spoke to, said: My son died here.
They said marijuana use is so prevalent that the site manager jokingly complained at an all-hands meeting that he had gotten a contact high walking in the door.
Another employee broadcast himself on Facebook Live talking about wanting to bash a managers head in. Another manager determined that he was making a joke, and he was not disciplined.
I wouldnt want my worst enemy to work there, Hopkinson said. Its a terrible, terrible environment.
He watched videos of people playing with human fetuses, and says he learned that they are allowed on Facebook as long as the skin is translucent. He found that he could no longer sleep for more than two or three hours a night. He would frequently wake up in a cold sweat, crying.

“......he worked as a moderator for Facebook, where he purged the social network of the worst stuff that its users post on a daily basis: the hate speech, the murders, the child pornography.
Utley worked the overnight shift at a Facebook content moderation site in Tampa, FL, operated by a professional services vendor named Cognizant......”
It appears to me that FB has some dumb policies and programming that make it more difficult for content moderators.
Why tolerate users who consistently post animal abuse or child porn?
Is there no way to make a program that flags or tags videos that violate the terms of service so that they are automatically prevented from being repeatedly shared and stop coming up in the moderation que?
As for the filthy bathrooms, is there no state agency in Florida that does surprise inspections and fines companies for nasty workplaces?
I also don’t understand how a contractor manages to find a workforce (even in Florida) that has such nasty habits.
Very disturbing...what people record of their evil sick activities
(murder, animal sex, child sex) it’s...I can’t describe it, it’s so disgusting.
So a ‘content moderator’ has to watch (& hopefully) delete that stuff.
Makes me wonder how they have time to censor conservatives, really.
Thanks for this look-behind-the-scenes post.
These companies should be shut down.
These companies should be shut down.
There is also one in richardson, tx. Company hires many, burnout is common. This company will do ANY service for a fee. I left (worked in diff area) —wondered how many souls were lost as result of those jobs.
Facebook jobs this stuff out.
I am so happy that I have NEVER had a Facebook!!!!!
But they chose to work for an Evil entity so my compassion is not stirred
This is a low pay job and the alternative is Mc Donalds.
The other option is welfare with maybe drug dealing...
They work for a subcontractor of Facebook.
If you work in a service industry, you too may be connected to the tentacles of FB.
I was fortunate to start as a trainee and move nicely up the ladder. That is not true for everyone, even good people.
PP? Polypropylene????
So it is work for Facebook or deal drugs?
O-Kay!
And there are some who say there is no Satan.
For this type of thing alone, Facebook needs to be destroyed.
